HomeMy WebLinkAbout2005-06-07-TDES-min RECEIVED TOWN CLERK Property Tax Committee Meeting LEXINGTON MA Tuesday, June 7 at 2:00pm, Town Hall Attendees: Vicki Blier, JohnBarenstein, Marilyn Campbell, Pat Costello, Bill Kennedy, Tom Taylor Reviewed information gathered from other towns re residential exemption program. Weymouth had program, then rescinded. Concord study seems good basis for our own. Study says 50%would benefit. We agreed: 1. to meet with Joe Nugent, Assessor on June 28th at 2:00pm. Vicki will ask him to gather Lexington facts similar to Concord's facts in its report. Additional questions for Joe should be with Vicki by June 15, please. (Guess we need to extend that - perhaps to this friday, the 17th?) 2. debate between "Meher and Rosenberg"scheduled for afternoon of September 20. Vicki will contact Rosenberg re participating, Ron Cole, if he's unwilling, Patrick has already agreed. Our Committee will invite Selectmen to attend and will provide background for the debate. 3. to monitor progress of home rule petition by regular contact with Reps. Kaufman and Stanley. Marilyn offered to do this. 4. Tax Payers Education needed about present programs and regulations. Ask Assessor's office to include information with tax bills? 5. continued study needed: regulations re agricultural lands need finding. Next meeting June 28 at 2:00pm Marilyn Campbell Revisions: June 16, 2005 John Bartenstein Marilyn, The draft minutes look pretty good to me. Several minor edits on names: Bartenstein, Mehr and Rod Cole. Instead of"Debate between "Mehr and Rosenberg"scheduled for afternoon of September 20," 1 think I might say: "September 20 is the target date for a discussion between a proponent and opponent of the residential tax exemption who would present pro's and con's. Vicki will try to line up suitable advocates. It would be helpful to have position papers in advance. The Committee may ask the advocates to present their perspectives at a Board of Selectmen meeting." Thanks very much for circulating these so promptly. John June 17, 2005 Thanks Marilyn- The minutes are clear and complete. John Rosenberg is not interested in representing the anti-residential exemption argument, but would help us think through one. I will talk to Rod Cole, but am guessing that we may need to come up with an alternative approach. Vicki
