April 26,2023 Meeting Minutes
Pursuant to notice duly filed with the Town Clerk,the Semiquincentennial Commission
(Lex250)convened in a hybrid meeting in person in the Parker Room of the Town Office
Building and via Zoom video conference on Tuesday,April 26 at 4:33 pm by Ms.Barry as
allowed by legislation (S.2475)extending the suspension of certain provisions of the
Massachusetts Open Meeting Law.
Present in person:

Steve Conners,Reenactment Community Representative

●The meeting was called to order at 4:33 pm by Ms.Barry
●Marsha Baker presented the Lexington Historical Society’s plans to commemorate and
conduct a reenactment of Lafayette’s visit to Lexington in 1824
○The event will be held in on 200th anniversary of the visit on September 2,2024
(Labor Day)
○A Lafayette reenactor will be present
○They may be able to have an exhibit of Lafayette-related materials and will place
a marker
○The group discussed whether this could be a kick-off event for the Lex 250
festivities
■Some possibilities include having a long table along Mass Ave for dining
and encouraging restaurants to creative signature dishes and special
cocktails
■We could consider inviting visitors from our sister city in Antony,France
■We could possibly collaborate with staff and students from the Minuteman
High School to build an arch
●Upcoming meetings:
○May 10:Town counsel,trademark discussion,merchandise,tent
○May 17:Schedule for Marquis weekend
○June 1 in Concord:Regional 250th meeting
○May 10:Town counsel,trademark counsel,merchandise,tent
●Discovery Day 2023
○Participation of the Lex 250 Commission this year is not feasible
○In lieu of Discovery Day,we will look into procuring a tent for the purpose of
hosting a pop-up booth at public events in Lexington during summer and fall
○Ms.Hundley will look into the summer concert schedule
○Ms.Tung will research different tent options and pricing
○A motion to purchase a tent for the purchases of publicity for Lex 250-related
events and community outreach was passed unanimously by roll call vote
●Approval of minutes
○A motion to approve the minutes of the Lex 250 meetings of 4/4/2023 and
3/1/2023 was made by Ms.Barry,seconded by Mr.Cunha,and approved
unanimously by roll call vote
●Working group updates
○In the interest of time and efficiency,Ms.Barry suggested that working group
updates be reported by email distribution to commission members.
●State and Federal updates
○Ms.Barry indicated that a state-level meeting is scheduled for May 9 at 3 pm and
that commission members could attend virtually
○The finance committee of the state commission met last Friday to review funding
options
○Currently,state-level proposals for funding are stalled
○The possibility of federal funding is unlikely
○The communities of Concord,Arlington,Lincoln,and Lexington are considering
jointly hiring an event planner or coordinator for all 4 communities
○Options for funding from the town are being considered
●Encampment update
○Mr.Conners’plan is currently under review by the town manager’s office
●Adjourn
○A motion to adjourn the meeting was made at 5:52 pm and passed unanimously
by roll call vote
