HomeMy WebLinkAbout2023-03-01-LEX250-minSemiquincentennial Commission (Lex250) March 1,2023 Meeting Minutes Pursuant to notice duly filed with the Town Clerk,the Semiquincentennial Commission (Lex250)convened in a hybrid meeting in person at the Lexington Town Hall and via Zoom video conference on Wednesday,March 1 at 4:36 pm by Ms.Barry as allowed by legislation (S.2475)extending the suspension of certain provisions of the Massachusetts Open Meeting Law. Members present in person: Suzie Barry,Select Board Member,Chair Mona Roy,Community Representative,Vice Chair Jillian Tung,Music &Arts Representative,Clerk Barry Cunha,Business Representative Jane Hundley,LPS 6-8 Social Science Coordinator Members attending remotely: Cerise Jalelian,Town Celebrations Committee Representative Steve Conners,Reenactment Community Representative Bebe Fallick,Tourism Committee Representative Julie O’Leary,Civic Representative John Rossi,Commission on Disability Liaison 1.The meeting was called to order at 4:36 pm by Ms.Barry. 2.A motion to approve the minutes of the February 15,2023 meeting was made by Ms. Tung,seconded by Ms.Hundley,and approved by roll call vote. 3.A draft of a Lex 250 “Roadshow”PowerPoint presentation created by Ms.Tung was reviewed.Committee members offered feedback and suggested edits.The slide set was created as a resource for committee members discussing Lex 250 activities and plans with community groups,organizations,and stakeholders. 4.Ms.Barry provided a debrief of the Patriots’Day stakeholders meeting that was held on 2/7/2023.Ms.Barry and Mr.Cunha attended in person.Ms.Tung attended remotely. Logistics of Patriots Day activities were discussed.The possibility of including an encampment among the 2025 events was raised and will be further discussed in upcoming meetings to include Lex 250 members and town staff. 5.Ms.Barry provided 250th-related state and federal updates.Funding strategies at the state level were discussed.Ms.Hundley will liaise with education subgroups. 6.The group discussed future meeting frequency and decided to move to monthly meetings of the full commission.The Commission will plan to meet on the first Wednesday of every month.Working groups were encouraged to meet more frequently as needed. 7.Working group updates a.Community engagement i.Ms.Tung indicated that the group is in the process of connecting with community organizations about arts and culture. ii.Ms.Hundley will connect with LPS K-12 Performing Arts and Visual Arts Directors about the schools’Lex 250 -related activities.She will also connect with faculty at Minuteman High School through town liaison Judy Crocker. b.Publicity i.Ms.Barry suggested that the group could publicize efforts currently in progress, could re-tweet content from Rev 250,publicize the volunteer form,showcase the logos,or communicate updates to the website ii.Mr.Conners emphasized the importance of deciding upon the timing of events early on iii.The group reached out to Ashley Rooney,a community volunteer who expressed an interest in volunteering c.Government Relations i.Mr.Cunha suggested possibility of having a separate working group for Patriots Day weekend re-enactments 8.Other a.Suggestion boxes have been ordered b.Monument small working group will initiate a call for artists to submit design proposals c.Members of the Monuments and Memorials Committee suggested creating another Captain Parker statue for the purpose of establishing a site where a wreath could be laid.Mr.Cunha pointed out that wreaths are already laid by the Minutemen in honor of Captain Parker and others who fought in the Battle. d.The current vacancy needs to be advertised;the Select Board will vote on who will fill the position 9.Next meeting:Wednesday,April 4,2023 at 4:30 pm. 10.Mr.Cunha made a motion to adjourn the meeting at 5:45 pm..The motion was seconded by Ms.Roy and approved by roll call vote.
