November 2,2022 Meeting Minutes
Pursuant to notice duly filed with the Town Clerk,the Semiquincentennial Commission
(Lex250)convened in a meeting via Zoom video conference on Wednesday,November 2,2022
at 4:02 pm as allowed by legislation (S.2475)extending the suspension of certain provisions of
the Massachusetts Open Meeting Law.
Present:Suzie Barry (Select Board Member),Mona Roy (Community Representative),Jillian
Tung (Music &Arts Representative),Barry Cunha (Business Representative),Julie O’Leary
(Civic Representative),Cerise Jalelian (Town Celebrations Committee Representative)Paul
O’Shaughnessy (Historical Organization Representative),Steve Conners (Reenactment
Community),Bebe Fallick (Tourism Committee Representative),Steve Cole (Community
Representative)
Guest attendee:Jane Hundley,LPS 6-8 Social Science Coordinator
The meeting was called to order at 4:02 pm by Ms.Barry.
1.Special Town Meeting 11/1/2022
a.Article 8 passed,so the Lex 250 Commission will receive $75K to fund the
website,Rev 250 membership,and other Lex 250 related expenses
b.Ms.Roy and Mr.Conners underscored importance of making website accessible
and inclusive
c.Next step:write the RFP for the website and publish it properly
d.Ms.Barry noted that proposals will have to be ranked according to protocol
e.Ms.Barry and Mr.Conners will work on RFP and submit to town staff
f.The group discussed the possibility of adding seats on the Commission for the
Commission on Disabilities (COD)and a youth representative vs creating liaison
positions for these representatives
g.Ms.Tung and Ms.O’Leary pointed out that creating liaison positions would allow
greater flexibility and more optimal efficiency than creating additional seats
would
h.Ms.Barry will approach COD for their thoughts on what the appropriate level of
membership/engagement would be
2.Working Groups
a.Ms.Barry indicated that working groups might need to conform to open meeting
law provisions.The group discussed implications and possible alternative
structures for working together in groups.Ms.Barry and others suggested that we
consult with Town Counsel.
3.10/12/22 Community Meeting Debrief and Feedback
a.The location was favorable;alternate sites such as the Depot will be considered
for future events
b.The flow of the presentations worked well
c.Ms.Barry suggested the possibility of doing a roadshow for the benefit of
community members
d.Ms.Roy pointed out that the audience was very diverse and felt the event was
effective at building community
e.Ms.Roy suggested wider publicity for the next meeting
f.Ms.Hundley pointed out that the game led by Ms.Fallick was very effective and
spoke positively about the venue and meeting format
g.Ms.Tung indicated that we should keep an updated flier on hand for attendees
who would like information in a printed format,and the buttons and decorations
created a warm and welcoming table
h.Ms.Jalelian pointed out that having refreshments was an important component of
creating a warm welcome
i.Ms.Barry pointed out that the QR code on the brochure linking to the website is
not functional and needs to be changed
4.Ms.Tung will create a sign up form for others to participate as note takers for upcoming
meetings
5.Next Lex 250 meeting:November 16
6.A motion to adjourn the meeting was made by Mr.Cunha,seconded by Mr.
O’Shaughnessy,and approved by roll call vote at 5:03 pm
