Special Permit Residential Development Committee
May 13, 7:03pm meeting called to order
Attending: Members, Jill Hai, Richard Canale, Richard Perry, Taylor Singh, Betsey Weiss, Scott Cooper,
Heather Hartshorn, Matt Daggett, Joyce Murphy, meeting facilitator David Trietsch.
Summary of listening sessions.
Some confusion at the listening sessions about attainable housing versus affordable housing.
Attainable to workforce was mentioned.
Many comments on the value of site sensitive building as well environmentally sensitive designs.
Many comments on value of greater density and mixed-use.
Do we think that Lexington was represented? Many people already involved in planning and governance
processes. Much of the feedback was similar to other feedback received on other planning issues.
Should we do a survey to gather more input? A straw man proposal would allow more community input
by having something to react to.
Next steps:
Jill: do we want to bring together a panel of people who have recently engaged in the special permit
processes? The panel could include contractors, landscape architect and possibly attorneys. People with
suggestions should email names to Jill.
People have mentioned Arlington and Concord process as succeeding. The new planning director in
Lexington has experience in both Arlington and Concord. She would be an important person to speak to.
Please email questions to David that we like to ask the committee of contractors, and landscape
architects and possibly attorneys. Suggestions were made by individuals of people who we could ask to
speak to the committee.
Matt has put together a summary that he is still working on projects that have happened in the past 10
years under SPRD
Some discussion on if our proposal will be ready for the fall town meeting.
Committee should also email Jill dates they will not be available for summer meetings.
