HomeMy WebLinkAbout2023-03-17-BOWMAN-min BOWMAN [11�',�'11�11 .......... a��n�� ����� A-% ""'R Y Jennifer Corduck (781) 861-2500 Principal jcorduck@lexingtonma.org Fax: (781) 861-2315 Bowman Site Council Minutes Friday, March 17, 2023 7:45-8:45 AM Site Council The meeting will take place at Bowman School in the Rm#22 Present at the meeting:Jenny Corduck, Kara Kunkler Peck, Erin Cerat, Melinda Webster Loof, Lance Zhang&Gary Vandeurse. • Welcome • Staff School Updates o LEF SC Grant Corinne Demas recap School staff shared highlights from the recent author visit in grades 3, 4, and 5 made possible by the LEF and School Community grant. o LEF Program Grant - Katherine Costa and Erin Cerat Ms. Cerat described the LEF grant that she and a colleague recently wrote. The purpose of the grant is to fund decodable text that would benefit special education and ELL students. The monies would impact classroom libraries. o "Book Room" We discussed the progress that was being made in creating a "Book Room" with the generous support of PTO. o Review Draft Vision Statements Council members reviewed the following draft vision statement: "Bowman School creates a learning community in which identities are celebrated, diverse Bowman Elementary School 19 Philip Road I Lexington,MA 102421 values are respected, rigor is embraced and mistakes are honored, and curiosity is both nurtured and supported to help students navigate the greater world as respectful, responsible, and resourceful agents of change". After discussion, ended up the following draft: "Bowman School is a welcoming community in which diversity and identity is valued, rigor is embraced, and mistakes are honored. At Bowman, curiosity and love of learning is nurtured to empower students to navigate the greater world". The next step will be to share this draft with teachers at an upcoming staff meeting and get their feedback. • Parent Updates o Contract negotiations update Parents inquired about the status of contract negotiations. Teachers talked about the latest information and knowledge about the process. o Parking spot for 10 min parent drop off out front A parent suggested that we should designate a parking space at the front entrance as a 15 minute parking space for parents who are dropping items off or visiting in the short term.
