The 2023 Pat Flynn Youth Award is being presented this year to a deserving Lexington High School senior. The recipient
is an excelient student,dedicated vo�unteer,strong role model and they display outstanding leadership skills.This year's
recipient is Shruti Pokharna.
Shruti Pokharna
Shruti is a Senior at Lexington High School and is a member of the National Ocean Sciences Bowl,Gir1UP,DEI Council,
Student Council, National Honor Society, Lexin�ton High School Varsity Debate Team and �s a co-president of the
Lexington Intergenerational �utreach Club at Lexington High School. She volunteers her time at the middle school
teaching debate and coaching the Science Bow�Team.
Shruti has been a Girl Scout since 4th grade and earned her Bronze Award for hosting events for Senior Citizens in
Lexington; her Si�ver Award for working with her fellow G�rl Scouts from Troop 65411 in bringing forward a town-
wide bylaw to ban single use plastic straws and polystyrene foodware that successfully passed the 20�9 Annual Town
Meeting and her Gold Award for running public speaking workshops internationally, empowering students through
teaching the essential life skill of effective argumentation via online classes and in-person camps.
Shru�i wrote in her essay that "se�ving one's community is r�ot just an obligation but a privilege and that community
involvement and patriotism go hand in hand with each other."She went on to say the "greatest honor we can receive is
not a plaque or a trophy but the knowledge that we have made a positive impact in the lives of those around us. That is
the legacy Pat Flynn left behind and the one that�hope to leave as well."
Shruti is a talented student, dedicated volunteer and community participant and strong role model with excep�ional
leadership qualities.For all these reasons and more,it is an honor to present the 2023 Pat Flynn Youth Award to Shruti
Pokharna. Congratu�ations Shruti!
