HomeMy WebLinkAbout2022-10-06-MMC-min RECEIVED 2023 23 ,Jairi, am Monuments & Memorials Committee Meeting Minutes TOWN CL,ERK Thursday, October 6, 2022 Conducted by Remote Participation LEXINGTON 7:00 PM Members Present Linda Dixon, Chair; Avram Baskin, Glen Bassett, Bebe Fallick, Chuck French, George Gamota, Leslie Masson, Charles Price, Danjun Pu Guests Suzie Barry, Select Board Liaison Michele Tran Business Chair Dixon convened the meeting at 7:03 p.m. and read the Town notice regarding the conduct of public virtual meetings. She declared that a quorum was present. Minutes of September 8, 2022 On motion duly made and seconded,the minutes of September 8, 2022 were approved by roll call vote. Lex250 Suzie Barry, Chair of Lex250, announced that her committee has purchased and installed a large screen in the lower level of the Visitors Center. The M&M Committee is welcome to show certain videos there, as we develop our monument database. Lex250 is well underway in initial planning, including discussions of a possible new memorial. Dedication of Lafayette Marker: George Gamota reported that the Lafayette Marker, which was approved and recommended by this committee on December 2, 2021 and approved by the Select Board soon after, was officially dedicated on September 11, 2022 at a ceremony sponsored by the Lexington Historical Society. Plans are also being made for the 200-year anniversary of Lafayette's visit to Lexington in 2024. Database Progress: Chuck, Leslie and Danjun reported on a training session delivered by Judy Baldasaro, Town GIS Administrator. Judy walked participants through the process of receiving an electronic submission of a new monument, verifying the data, and entering it into our database. Judy did a great job, and the training was very helpful. Policies and Procedures Manual: The Committee reviewed suggestions for Policies & Procedures Draft 7 submitted by Leslie Masson and completed the review through the end of page 2, adopting her suggestions. LexDoingGood: The Community Endowment of Lexington (CEL) is hosting an exposition for its grant recipients at the Community Center on Saturday, October 22. The public is invited to visit with these various groups who do good works for the community, get to know more about their work, and possibly to volunteer with them. The Monuments and Memorials Committee will participate. Linda asked for volunteers to work on promotional items and to attend the event. Avram, Leslie, George, and Danjun volunteered. The next meeting will be held on November 3, 2022. Upon motion made and seconded, the meeting was adjourned by roll call vote at 9:16 PM. Respectfully submitted, George Gamota, Member
