Approval of Minutes
After a minor correction, on a roll call vote, the corrected minutes of October 6 were approved.
Helping Users Find the Shortest Route Between Monuments
Jerry Xu, member of the Lexington Heroes student group, presented a sample of a program he
and his sister Cassidy have developed to propose for the Committee's Database project. Dubbed
"Pathfinder", the application uses Google Maps to create the shortest route between selected
monuments and provides clear directions to the user who may be walking, biking, or driving
between monuments. The presentation generated an enthusiastic discussion and Jerry answered
many questions. The group consensus was that this would be a great addition to our project.
Google Maps Training for Lexington Heroes
Professor Wei Ding, director and mentor of the Lexington Heroes group, reported that she has
contracted with a computer professional from UMass Boston to train the students in higher level
Google Maps coding skills. This activity will be funded by a$3,000 grant from the Community
Endowment of Lexington (CEL).
Report on LexDoingGood at the Community Center
Linda gave a report on the LexDoingGood event. George Gamota, Danjun Pu, Holly Ding,
Cassidy Xu and Jerry Xu joined Linda at the event. Danjun and Cassidy especially engaged with
the many visitors who stopped by our table. Avram designed an effective handout promoting the
Committee, our database, and our crowdsourcing efforts. Altogether it was quite successful.
Chuck announced that we had our first Monument report from the public process through our
system perfectly. Leslie had a problem with the accuracy of the Kay Tiffany stone bench
monument. Chuck will work with her to resolve the problem.
This was our first hybrid meeting with both members and speakers in person and on Zoom.
While it had a few technical glitches it worked. Things should go much more smoothly next
time.
The meeting was adjourned by roll call vote at 8:40 p.m.
Respectfully submitted,
Chuck French, Committee member
