We are coming out of Covid - bringing back programs that were once paused. All School AIMSWeb Assessment ●This helps show us how students are doing with literacy skills. We assess all students in one day, using subs, ELL teachers, and Math/Literacy Specialists to help with staffing. ●Data from this assessment is brought into Data Team meetings to determine next steps (intervention) for students. ●Early reads indicate that K-2 is looking really good–the implementation of Fundations and Haggarty seems to be making a difference. Hard work of teachers and specialists seems to be paying off. LEF Grant - Sarah Ward from Cognitive Connections - Executive Functioning ●While many ideas submitted by staff on the Google Doc, one stuck out - a 1-2hr presentation on Executive Functioning. Other schools have found Sarah Ward’s professional learning for teachers to be immediately applicable to classrooms. ●This was submitted for a Community Grant - if awarded the grant, we can bring Sarah Ward back to do training for parents as well. ●Staff Presentation - March 10th ●Parent Presentation - TBD ACCESS Testing has begun for ELL students ●This is a federal mandated test for all ELL students. Four components covered: reading, writing, speaking, and listening. It is a long test that takes a while. We are in the first week of this. ●Data collected will help inform instruction at Fiske. Scores come out in May and we will have May and June to think through results and to target deficits. Where do the students need more support? ●Even though it’s just one data point, it’s used in Data Team meetings. If there’s a concern, ELL team has that information to bring in to inform work throughout the year. For older students, the team works with them to develop goals. ●We have around 55 students in the program. Research says it takes 5-7 to be biliterate in all the domains. Typically will keep around 3 years. Sometimes will keep longer if needed. Data Team Meetings ●Data Collection: We had our second round of Data Teams. Brian is very proud of the most current process. In the past, it was a long day of going through the roster by grade without much discussion. Now, two weeks prior to what is the Data Team meeting is a week of Data Collection. It’s the week they are honing in and collecting different assessments. They look for trends and needs across classrooms and talk to other teachers in grade level. ●Data Discussion: Katie O’Hare Gibson and Brian Baker join a Professional Learning Community (PLC) for each grade level. They look at trends and needs then discuss and make a plan for interventions. They review what the interventions look like and what the focus will be. ●Extended PLC: Grade level teachers get to meet with Dr. Rawding (45 mins), literacy (45 mins), and counselors (20 mins) to hone in on what to do, and specialists are able to give ideas on what else to do. Michele Carter shared that they fill in a worksheet for a group’s specific needs which enables specialists to come to these meetings with the tools for the teachers. ●Teachers are now able to walk away with WINs (What I Need) Substitutes ●Despite news of sub shortages, we at Fiske are fortunate especially when it comes to ILP. Currently, we have a core group that comes nearly daily. Some days will need to pull SSPs but not often. ●For the most part, there are dedicated subs for ILP classrooms. Each elementary school has a building sub and Bernadette P is ours. Have a list of subs they can count on every day (2 or 3 happen to be Fiske parents, other 2 are LPS parents). Upcoming PTO Activities ●Talent Show - Feb. 10th – 80 children, 60 acts signed up. ●Science Fair - March 8th – All school meeting this Friday. Group coming from LHS to kickoff science fair for G2-5. Wednesday, Feb 1 is Global School play Day. This has been modified over the years, and Brian Baker leaves it up to each classroom to decide how they want to do it (break up, just an hour, structure within play day). Fiske Playground Update ●Looks great and kids love it. Pictures were taken of all the playground items with accompanying details on how to use the equipment and expectations when using it. Most kids were familiar with new structures from other playgrounds. ●The merry-go-round spinner sparked questions from adults, namely on how many kids could be on there at one time. Brian Baker has empowered the adults on duty to help determine what is safe and manageable. ●They will be coming back at the end of year to lay down the PIP and the trench behind the basketball hoops will also be filled in. Discussion Topics for 2022-2023 School Year ●Sarina Sherwin asked about the 23/24 Calendar. It likely will not be shared until May/June.
