Chair Paul O’Shaughnessy called the December 1, 2022 Historic Districts Commission meeting
to order at 5:03pm.
FORMAL HEARING
Chair Paul O’Shaughnessy opened the formal hearing for 678 Massachusetts Avenue, exterior
changes (Exterior renovation) in the East Village Historic District

The applicant explained the proposed exterior restoration to 678 Massachusetts Avenue.
The Board agreed to continue this application to next meeting in January, 2023 with fully detailed
landscape drawing. Bob Adams has served as liaison for this application.

The applicant explained the proposed signage to 1756 Massachusetts Avenue.
The Board felt the proposed plans were appropriate except the blade sign location, fabrication and
thickness of applique. The Board agreed the blade sign should be placed what was the original blade sign
placed.
Jeffrey Lyons, from 55 Waltham St, landlord of this property, suggested to relocate the blade sign mounted
to the brick wall.
Motion was granted and seconded to issue a Certificate of Appropriateness for exterior changes to
1756 Massachusetts Avenue with caveat of updated drawings with blade sign location, fabrication,
and thickness of applique. Motion carried, all in favor.

The applicant architect explained the proposed pool house at 11 Byron Avenue. The proposed pool house
will be 8 feet lower than existing house. The pool house will be partially visible from Maple Street, Byron
Avenue, and the Minuteman Bikeway. Due to topography, vegetation, fencing and distance, the pool and
patio will not be visible from any public way.
The Board felt the proposed plans were appropriate with a condition of preservation setback plantings
where it is possible for masking purpose. The water runoff issue, pavement stones, and absorption will be
forwarded to Zoning for review.
Beverly Seavey, from 1099 Mass Ave, expressed her opposite to this plan.
Motion was granted and seconded to issue a Certificate of Appropriateness for exterior changes to
11 Byron Avenue with one caveat in the condition of preservation existing plantings where it is
possible. Motion carried, all in favor.
CONTINUED HEARINGS
Chair Paul O’Shaughnessy opened the continued hearing for 55 Waltham Street, exterior changes
(Window Replacement) in the Battle Green Historic District

The Board felt the proposed plans were appropriate.

Motion was granted and seconded to issue a Certificate of Appropriateness for exterior changes to
55 Waltham Street. Motion carried, all in favor.

changes (Solar Carports) in the Battle Green Historic District

The applicants explained the updated proposed changes of solar carports to 1575 Massachusetts Avenue
and requested actions on Massachusetts Avenue Canopy Leg – Design Option F.2 & Suitability of Design
Intent for further development.
Robert Adams has been served as liaison for this application. The board agreed the conceptual design
were appropriate. They conditionally approved this application on detailed design drawings being
submitted and reviewed in a future hearing.
Daniel Voss, from Sustainable Lexington Committee, stated he supports the plans.
Paul O’Shaughnessy made a motion that the Board approve the conceptual of design as rendered

in this presentation during the meeting on December 1, 2022, and the Board issue a certificate as
a record that design needs to get a subsequent certificate of approval through all design details
normally submitted with a project. Robert Adams seconded. Roll Call Vote: Mark Connor— No,
Robert Adams – Yes, Robin Lovett — Yes, Lee Noel Chase — Yes, Paul O' Shaughnessy—Yes.
Motion carried. The majority in favor.

changes (Additions) in the Munroe Tavern Historic District
