HomeMy WebLinkAbout2022-10-19-COA-minCouncil of Aging Board Meeting Town of Lexington October 17, 2022 2:32-3:57 PM Zoom Video Conference Present: Julie-Ann Shapiro, Betty Borghesani, Bonnie Teitleman, Ellen Cameron, John Zhao, Sudhir Jain, Sandra Shaw, Sue Rockwell, Julie Barker, Camille Goodwin Staff: Melissa Interess, Hemali Shah, Bea Holland (MMSS), Mark Sandeen (Select Board) Julie-Ann called the meeting to order at 2:32 PM, took attendance by roll call. Public Comments: None Approval of September minutes Minute Man Senior Services (MMSS) 101 presentation by Kelly Magee Wright, Executive Director • Overview of MMSS, our ASAP (Aging Services Access Point). One of 24 in MA includes 16 communities • MMSS also serves as a AAA (Area Agency on Aging) which is Federal and is part of Metro Boston Aging and Disability Resource Consortium • Non-profit, serving those in community or in Skilled Nursing Facility. Services: homemaking, personal care, cleaning, day health, adaptive housing equipment, home health, laundry, medication management, emergency, transportation, wandering service, respite, ombudsman, private pay care management, healthy living courses, care transitions assistance • 130 employees, 400+ volunteers, vendors • Collaborative positive relationship w/Lexington: meals, caregiver support, SHINE • Lexington residents 10.1% utilization of MMSS Staff Reports: Hemali Shah, Senior Services Director • Vaccinated/boosted 213 at 2 flu shot clinics at Community Center • Will do homebound and village residents • Hemali’s last meeting in current role, COA wished her all the best • Intergenerational programming presentation at MCOA conference • Harvest Festival had 30 seniors attend • Scam program 50+ attendees • October Festival lunch 10/20 70 attendees • Boston Holiday Pops 12/8 sign up now open Christine Dean, Community Center Director • Let’s Do Good event 10/22 at LCC, Haunted House 10/28, Special town meeting starts 11/1; playground improvement mtg 11/9 7PM zoom New Business John Zhao reports on assessment of town structure conducted by consultant Recommendations from report related to staff and boards/committees: • Need support staff, streamline boards, better onboarding, more efficiency, term limits on boards and chairs, update mission statements, consolidate or dissolve inactive committees, improve communication Liaison Reports Transportation-Sudhir Jain-MBTA public mtg 11/2 6-7:30PM FCOA- Sudhir Jain- annual report, 50 year anniversary FCOA , 2 page article in Lexington Times with photos, letter from COA, 2 posters Commission on Disability-Bonnie Teitleman- Discussion w/Christina Burwell re updating Munroe Center for Arts, review Parker Meadow event, discussion of intersection of bike safety and pedestrians w/disabilities Recreation Committee no update Lexington Housing-Susan Rockwell Since 9/1 met 5x, 3 special mtgs. Director resigned, subcommittee for replacement; change funding; renovations in villages on going Comprehensive Plan Advisory Committee- no update Vision for Lexington-Jyotsna Kakullavarapu- 227 page National Leadership Comprehensive Report, Jyotsna will review and report next month; reached out to 2400 underrepresented communities Housing Partnership- John Zhao- no update Mental Health Task Force-Ellen Cameron- no update Lexington Center Committee-Sandra Shaw- residents unhappy with Center; MBTA related housing discussions: apartments over stores, expand, revitalize Center Strategic Equity Advisory Ellen Cameron –no update Meeting adjourned by Julie-Ann at 3:50PM Next meeting of COA : December 7, 2022 2:30 -4PM Note: No November meeting Submitted by Bonnie Teitleman
