Minutes of the previous meeting were read and approvaied. It is noted that the Preservation Awards were given out at the July 7, 1988, Band Concert. New Business. 1. Election of a chairman. Gilman nominated McKenna, Witthoft seconded, elected unanimously. Witthoft volunteered to take minutes wLS 2. The Chairman is directed to see the Town Manager (a) to obtain the address of the new commission member so that she can be notified of meetings. (b) to find out more about the appointment and reappointment process for the LHC; and (c) to register our complaint about the manner in which Mr. Roland Gubisch was dismissed from the Commission. 3. Witthoft is to draft a letter of thanks to Mr. Gubisch for his service to the commission and invite him to the next meeting in order to express our thanks in person. Old Business. 4. Allen-Swenson farmhouse: this house will be moved to the Kendall Ave--Grapevine Ave. location beginning Sept. 21. The move will take about two weeks. 5. Wood St. Barn: McKenna will consult with town counsel on legal issues and will request that no demolition order be issued until legal questions have been resolved, since the property has changed hands since the six months' demolition delay ordinance was invoked. McKenna reports she has spoken to the owner about possible solutions which would save the barn. New Business. 6. House at 610 Waltham St. A demolition order requested by R. Phelan for this property. AS the property is a listed building a hearing will be held on Oct. 20, 1988, at 8:00 p.m. Property owner and abuttors [both sides of Waltham St. to Allen St. ] will be notified. Witthoft will call former chairman, Gubisch, for information on the procedure for advertising the hearing in the newspaper. Said abuttors must be notified at least seven days before hearing, i.e. , mailed before Oct. 8. j 7. East Lexington Historic District. Witthoft will ask Gubisch for materials on this project. 8. National Historic Register. Witthoft suggested two properties which might be candidates: (1) , the Ripley house, 52 Follen Hill Rd; and (2) an2i, example of William Rogers Greeley's work. Eight of his domestic structures are extant (one was recently demolished). A list is attached to these minutes. Witthoft will consult with an authority on procedures for listing a property. McKenna will obtain names of current owners as needed. 1 9. House at 7 Abbott Rd.--commission signed off on this property. 10. Several demolition permits requested over the summer were handled by McKenna, none requiring a hearing. 11. Cindy Kirksey delivered a letter from Nancy M. Glenn and James N. Kirksey concerning agenda item 4, the Allen—Swenson farmhouse. Also Mr. Kirksey dba Lexington Land Development spoke to McKenna by telephone on Sept. 13, 1988, about this building. McKenna reports that during that conversation Mr. Kirksey stated that they were ready and able to move the house. This is the first notice we had that they had land. Mr. Kirksey refused to divulge the size or location of the proposed lot. The commission will send a letter to Store Frederickson asking that no demolition order or building permit be issued on the site at 29 Allen St. until the Allen—Swenson farmhouse has been safely removed from the site. (We understand that the house will be moved beginning Sept. 21 and that the present owner and the D $onte's are in accord in this matter.) The meeting adjourned at 9:00 p.m. after scheduling the next meeting for Oct. 20, 1988, at 7:30 p.m. preceding and if necessary following the hearing scheduled for that date.
