Present : Sarah Chase, Anne Grady, Norma Bogen, Bebe Fallick, John Orcutt 1 . MINUTES The minutes of the meeting of November 9 , 1978 , were read and accepted as recorded. 2 . MAPC INVENTORY FORMS (THE METROPOLITAN AREA PLANNING COUNCIL) The Commission briefly reviewed MAPC Inventory Forms for Lex- ington. These forms recorded public buildings only . Anne Grady will review and draft a response to the MAPC . 3 . URBAN IMAGE MAILING LIST The Commission will be placed on a mailing list of rental films and other presentation material by Urban Image . A film, now available entitled "A Measure of Change" , was discussed. 4. SUBMISSION FOR TOWN REPORT Sarah Chase read a final draft of the Historical Commission' s submission for the town report . This draft was approved as modified. Considerable discussion centered on the term "Gad Fly" . 5 . STUDENT INTERN Sarah Chase read a notice by the Massachusetts Historical Commission which offered funding for the position of a Student intern. The members of the Commission were in favor of having a student intern for eight to twelve hours a week for one semester. 6 . HANCOCK SCHOOL OPENING Members of the Commission discussed public opening of the Hancock School on Friday, December 15 , 1978 . All were en- couraged to attend. 7 . LEXINGTON BANDSTAND Members of the Commission discussed the possibility of making a statement on the location and design of the new bandstand. John Orcutt and Anne Grady will investigate and attempt to obtain drawings and other documentation describing the project . Attention was called to an article in the Lexington Minuteman (this date) pertaining to the bandstand. 8 . HISTORIC DISTRICTS COMMISSION - DOWNTOWN INFLUENCE Members of the Commission discussed a recent article in the Lexington Minuteman about Historic Districts Commission' s role in the demise of downtown businesses . 9 . REPORT TO THE LEXINGTON PLANNING BOARD Norma Bogen is reviewing a report to the Lexington Planning Board from the Joint Government and Citizens Advisory Committee on housing policy. It is assumed that this report has already been submitted to the Planning Board, however , she will advise the Commission if there is anything in the report requiring a statement. 10 . MICHELIN GUIDE Anne Grady has been contacted by the Michelin Guide requesting a map showing historical buildings in Lexington. She will follow up . 11 . HANCOCK SCHOOL Members of the Commission discussed the letter reply by R. Kirk Noyes of Sidney/Noyes Associates to the statements by the Lexington Historical Commission critical of the design and construction of the Hancock School redevelopment . John Orcutt will draft a response to the subject letter again requesting a) repainting of all building trim and b) masonry facing on the concrete walls and basement terraces .
