Present: Sara Chase , Chair; Norma Bogen, Betty Reinhardt ( serving until a replacement has been designated) . Visitor - Bebe Fallick. MINUTES The minutes of the meeting of September 14 were read and accepted. NATIONAL TRUST d'J0RKSHOP Anne Grady was not able to attend the annual meeting of the Trust ( October 11-15) because of her unexpected hospitalization. DISCUSSION WITH LHC CANDIDATE Commission members discussed with Bebe Fallick her interest as a candidate for the open LEO position. Fallick has a continuing interest in architecture and historic preservation as well as a background in education. She has taken courses in architectural history, has served as a walking tour guide in Boston, and has assisted in Lexington 's inventory. Members of the Commission pointed out the importance of completing the Town's inventory and the desirability of having a member with time and the interest in making a major effort in this direction. MEETING WITH MHC STAFF It was noted that Chase , Reinhardt, and Bogen met with MHC staff on October 4 to inspect the Joseph Bridge house as a potential National Register property and to take a general tour of Lexington. GRANT PROPOSAL:EDUCATION A letter was received from Betty Amadon requesting support for a grant proposal to the National Endowment for the Arts for an educational program in the high schools that would provide for the integration of social and architectural history. This is a three year program. Four towns have been selected for year 1 , and eight will be selected for year 2. Reinhardt will get in touch with the curriculum enrichment person (Ms. Dallas Gale) in the high school to offer LEO support. NATIONAL TRUST INTERN A letter was received from the National Trust decribing the Summer Intern program and inviting applications . LHC would be obligated to pay half the Intern's salary or $810 . It was de- cided to explore this further and Bogen will contact Town Mgr. Hutchinson to determine the possibility of obtaining funds from the town for this purpose . -2- NE4 FORMS MHC has prepared new forms for archeological sites and is willing to meet with the Commission to discuss them. It was decided to wait until some proposed activity in the town that was related to this issue was scheduled . (For example - excavation on the Green) . HOUSING COMMITTEE Bogen reported on her attendance at meetings of the Housing Committee and her input reflecting the Commission's concerns . The Needs and Programs Subcommittee has been outlining the housing needs in the town that are not being met - both subsidized and non-subsidized - and has been reviewing programa that would have applicability to a town such as Lexington.
