Members in Attendance: Marian Cohen, Margaret Coppe, Dan Joyner, Fernando Quezada. Eileen Zalisk
Members Absent: Jeri Zeder
Announcement: Rina Kodendera has resigned from the VFL and the subcommittee as she is moving out
of town.
The meeting was called to order at 10 AM.
Approval of minutes of May 6, 2022 meeting was postponed.
The Cary Lecture, “Inspiring Young People to Vote in an Election Year” with Kei Kawashima-Ginsberg ,
director of CIRCLE, the Center for Information and Research on Civic Learning and Engagement at Tufts
University, September 10, 2022, while information, was poorly attended. Margaret and Fernando were in
attendance. Copies of the Executive Summary were distributed to the committee
Marian Cohen reported on a recent article in the Atlantic Monthly on voting.
No contact to state wide organizations.
Dan would like to work with Jeri on the school civics curriculum. One suggestion was to have guest
lecturers go to the schools.
Margaret will make appointment to talk to Town Clerk, Mary de Alderete, with questions from the
committee
1. Town control over content of ballot
2. How to Run
3. Citizens Academy content
4. Cost
5. What information can be obtained from Town Clerk
6. Can voting day be changed
7. Vote by mail for municipal election
The meeting was adjourned at 11:11 AM.
The next meeting of the VFL Subcommittee on Local Election Voter Participation will be October 14,
2022 at 10 AM.
