September 28, 2022 Meeting Minutes
Pursuant to notice duly filed with the Town Clerk, the Semiquincentennial Commission
(Lex250) convened in a meeting via Zoom video conference on Wednesday, September 28, 2022
at 3:30 pm as allowed by legislation (S.2475) extending the suspension of certain provisions of
the Massachusetts Open Meeting Law.
Present:Steve Conners (Reenactment Community), Cerise Jalelian (Town Celebrations
Committee Representative), Mona Roy (Community Representative), Jillian Tung (Music & Arts
Representative), Bebe Fallick (Tourism Committee Representative), Barry Cunha (Business
Representative), Suzie Barry (Select Board Member), Julie O’Leary (Civic Representative),
Cerise Jalelian (Town Celebrations Committee Representative), Paul O’Shaughnessy (Historical
Organization Representative)
The meeting was called to order at 3:30 pm by Ms. Barry.
1.A motion to approve minutes of the 9.14.2022 meeting was made by Ms. Barry, seconded
by Ms. Roy, and approved by roll call vote.
2.Community engagement/Lex 250 kick off meeting
a.Wednesday, October 12, 10:00 am and 7:00 pm in Cary Library Living Room
b.Invitations
i.Ms. Roy provided an update on the invitations being sent to community
members and stakeholders
ii.Ms. Roy asked Commission members to follow up with invitees by email.
iii.Ms. O’Leary created a flyer to help publicize the meeting.
c.Format
i.Welcome, video, overview of working groups, Patriots Day weekend
activities, Q&A
ii.Ms. Fallick suggested that we clarify meaning of 250th in the introduction
iii.Ms. Tung will bring buttons for distribution and suggested having the flyer
on hand
iv.Next meeting on October 5 will be devoted to planning kick off meeting
3.Working Groups update
i.Community Engagement: Ms. Fallick, Ms. O’Leary, Ms. Tung
1.Ms. Tung provided an overview of goals
2.Ms. Barry asked us to be mindful of the distinction between
Town-sponsored events and community-partnered events. She
suggested that organizations and individuals who would like to be
on the calendar fill out a form to include information including
how the activity relates to Lex 250, whether dignitaries are
involved
3.Ms Barry suggested additional organizations who might be
resources for activities, including Department of Recreation, Town
Staff, Cary Library, Community Center, and others
ii.Publicity: Mr. Conners, Ms. Roy, Ms. Jalelian
1.Mr. Conners provided an overview of goals
2.Ms. Tung suggested recruiting volunteers for social media at the
October 12 meeting
iii.Government/Logistics: Ms. Barry, Mr. Cunha
1.Mr. Cunha provided an overview of goals
2.The group discussed the possibility of inviting dignitaries and Ms.
Barry said that the Town has protocols in place for hosting
3.Ms. Barry shared suggestions of leaders in government who may
be resources
4.The group discussed how reenactors from out of town could be
hosted, including the possibility of a period-appropriate
encampment
iv.Fundraising: Mr. Cole, Mr. O’Shaughnessy
1.Mr. O’Shaughnessy suggested procuring funds from the Town and
governmental agencies where possible. He also pointed that
resources might be available from Lexington Historical Society
and Minuteman Park
2.Mr. Conners pointed out that the American Battlefield
Organization might also provide resources
3.Ms. Barry pointed out that funding will also be needed for events
and activities before and after Patriots Day weekend
4.The group discussed approaches to fundraising
4.Volunteer form
a.Ms. Tung shared an updated volunteer form and the group provided feedback
5.Patriots Day stakeholder meeting
a.Ms. Barry is working on coordinating a meeting
6.Video: Ms. Barry discussed the need for the group to produce a video for the Town to
support a request for resources
7.Ms. Roy is coordinating a brief performance by Fife and Drum members at the October
12 meeting
8.Ms. Fallick provided an update regarding the hanging boards.
9.Website
a.The group discussed having a stand alone website vs. hosting by another town
agency
b.Ms. Roy moved that an independent website be developed and maintained for the
Lexington Semiquincentennial Commission (Lex 250) to publicize and promote
information related to the 250th anniversary of Battle at Lexington and other
historical events. The motion was seconded by Mr. Conners and unanimously
approved by roll call vote.
10.Next Lex 250 meeting: October 6 at 3:30 pm
11.A motion to adjourn the meeting was made by Mr. Cole, seconded by Mr.
O'Shaughnessy, and approved by roll call vote at 5:14 pm.
