Lexington Youth Commission
Minutes of the meeting held on Thursday, October 13, 2022
Members Present: Debbie Hankins, Shannon DeGuglielmo, Kristina Hankins, Duncan Maloney,
Ella Lucente, Ava Tamaro, Charlie Swan, Sara Chen, Alexis Chen, Ava Kieval, Sophia Glavin,
Victoria Wu, Hannah Kievel, Sonal Setty, Alice Ma, Gabriella Costello, Arden Carey, Sarah
Kochi, Tasneem Ghadiali, Owen Rosenthal, Anna Kefalas, Maya Benet, and Charlotte Longley
Members Absent: Isabella Barbesino, Sophie Seleeby, and John Kefalas.
Balloon Hanging, Monday, October 31st – 11:45 – 1:00 pm Members will be going to Lexington
Center to hang balloons during Day 3 H Block lunch. Freshman and Sophomores need permission to
leave campus regardless, upperclassmen need permission if they are missing a class and not a free
period. Members can attend the event for the whole lunch block or just one section of the lunch
The following people have signed up, Addie, Alice, Victoria, Sarah C, Jasmine, Gabby, Arden, Sophie,
Hannah, Nina, Alexis, Anna, Maya, Serena, Sonal, Duncan, Charlie, Ella, Ava, and Owen. People are
meeting at the Quad at 11:45 and walking to Brookline Bank. Mr. Michelson will meet you at
Brookline Bank with balloons and list of merchants.
The Food Pantry Drive, the 2000-pound challenge. Each member has received 11-13 bags to hand
out to friends, family, neighbors, etc. for food to be collected. Deb has bags for Izzy, ……, you need
to stop by her office, Room 202 at LHS On Monday, October 17th to pick them up (if you have not
already gotten them). There is urgency in getting these bags out to your neighbors and friends!
Each bag has a flyer taped to it, which talks about who and what the fundraiser is about, along with a
QR code for anyone who would like to make a donation. Members can add a personal note if they feel
that would help in collection.
The collection and delivery of food is on Saturday, November 12th at C&W (240 Bedford Street)
at Noon. We will need volunteers to sort through the bags, checking dates, organizing by food group,
repacking and delivering to the Lexington Food Pantry
Turkey Dinner Deliveries, Wednesday November 23rf at 2:00 pm. Drivers and passengers arrive at
C&W to pick up boxes of turkey dinners to be delivered to families in need in Lexington. Sign up and
more info at November’s meeting.
Kids in Need – Lexington Family Service Holiday Gift Giving - Each member has received 15
tickets at the October meeting. Deb has tickets for Izzy, ……, you need to stop by her office, Room
202 at LHS On Monday, October 17th to pick them up (if you have not already gotten them).
The $10 per ticket, an incentive for those buying is not only helping local families in need for the
holidays, but also there are 2 prizes of $500.00. The winners will be drawn and contacted live during
our December 8th meeting.
It is important that we sell all the tickets to achieve our GOAL. If you are having problems selling your
tickets, reach out to any team leaders or adult as soon as possible. Do not wait until December!
DO NOT COME TO DECEMBER MEETING WITH NO TICKETS SOLD.
Shannon talked about the ticket you sell. The ticket is given to the person buying it, the smaller part of
the ticket needs to be completed with name and phone number. You will turn in the filled out portion
of the tickets and money at the December 8th meeting.
Reminder that this event is helping children and families in need in Lexington!!! If you are a SUPER
SELLER of tickets, contact Shannon or me for additional tickets. #1 SUPER SELLER will receive a
prize!
LYC Merch – bring your designs for tee shirts to next meeting. We will vote on the design and get
them on order ASAP.
Fall Island Clean up - Deb talked about how well the cleanup went and how visually appealing the
island looks, Deb discussed the history of the island and how far the island has come from humble
beginnings. Despite maybe not knowing, the cleanup is noticed within the community. Don’t be afraid
to stop by and take a look at the island!
Depot Square Holiday Tree Lighting. Event on Friday Nov 25th (Black Friday) at around 5:30.
Members dress up in crazy and fun holiday outfits and hand out bells and candy canes for tree lighting.

FOLMADS Mailing Event The event is about 2 hours and involves labeling and stuffing envelopes
for fundraiser. More details to come.
Community Center Events for High School Students - Please see the attached google form link we
are in the process of collecting information for Tom at the Community Center. What is an event that
you feel that the town High School students would attend, what is a good month to have it, how would
you get out the word? Please complete the google form ASAP.
Lexington Outstanding Youth Award - Mrs. Kramer who will be the Committee Chair for this award
spoke about the opportunity that Seniors will have to apply for this. This award will be given on Patriots
Day to a Lexington Senior who exemplifies Community Service in Lexington. She spoke about the
history of Pat Flynn who started the youth commission, and his legacy to continue this award.
Our next meeting is scheduled for Thursday, November 10th at 7 PM at Lexington High School,
Library Media Center
