HomeMy WebLinkAbout2022-09-07-COA-min COUNCIL OF AGING BOARD MEETING TOWN OF LEXINGTON SEPTEMBER 7TH, 2022 2:34-3:45 pm in person PRESENT: Betty Borghesani, Sudhir Jain, Sandra Shaw, Ellen Cameron, John Zhao, Jyotsna Kakullavarapu STAFF: Michelle Kelleher, Melissa Interess, Christine Dean, Hemali Shah, Mark Sandeen. John called the meeting to order 2:34pm, took attendance. PUBLIC COMMENTS: Jane Freitas offered to help us in anyway. REVIEW AND APPROVAL of August Minutes STAFF REPORTS: CHRISTINE DEAN- DTR OF COMMUNITY CENTER The Community Center will resume regular hours- Thursday and Friday till 9pm. Gym Equipment- 2 brand new treadmills and bike repaired. Outdoor fitness equipment (6 stations) should be installed Sept 9th 2022. Grand opening will take place in the Fall. Three precincts voted at the Community center- about 1000 people without issues. Fall Guide is now available. Adult and Senior exercise classes begin next week. Lex Doing Good event with October 22nd - funded by CEL endowment. from 11-1pm Forever Fit and Let’s Walk (FCOA funded) both Dana Home Grant will start up again. Parking at Community Center- Town owns 75 spots others owned by Scottish Rites Museum. Work well together for large events. MICHELLE KELLEHER- SR. SERVICE COORDINATOR Dana Home Grant to Recreation and Human Service- Drums Alive program- filled. Memory Café restarted and sponsored by Minute Women and Artis. Life Transition Class- 4-week class with binder and all life information included. Trip to Maine -September 22nd filled Other programs- cooking, expressive arts, OWLL (4 zooms, 1 in person) Harvest Fest- Oct 15th. HEMALI SHAH: SR. SERVICES DTR 2 FLU Clinics September 27th 1pm-5pm and October 6th 9am-1pm. Wai working with Theatre Pharmacy to distribute Flu and Covid Boosters to inbound Seniors and Villages. Wellness Fair hosted by Brookhaven, October at the Scottish Rites Museum. MELISSA INTERESS: DTR HUMAN SERVICES Through the American Rescue Act and Elliot Services we have a Mental Health Clinician. Free of Charge and case load is half full. Available for 5-year old’s and up. NEW BUSINESS: None LIAISON REPORTS: Minuteman Senior Services: Bea Holland and Sudhir Jain - October 22nd will have SHINE presentation at the Community Center. Director of Minuteman Senior Services- hope to join our October Board Meeting. Will be a hybrid meeting. New Pilot Program- CLARIS for Caregivers. An app. First year free after that $29/month. Goal to help with isolation, and care at home. Can get a tablet on loan for those interested. 781-221- 7096 contact number if interested. Free workshops: Strength and Balance September 19th. Adapt Change as your age – both on zoom. Lincoln COA 8-week balance course- Lexington will offer in the Spring. TRANSPORTATION: Sudhir Jain – Annual report presented. Supporting bus Shelter in Lexington Center at Depot Square. Comprehensive plan in final stages meet with Planning Board Sept 28th. Current Budget without change in buses or drivers is up by 2.5%. FCOA: Sudhir Jain – no Meeting. 50th Anniversary coming up. We brainstormed how we can recognize the FCOA. Disability Commission: no update Recreation Committee: no update Lexington Housing Authority: (via email) The last meeting was very short: A service has been hired to manage the Vynebrooke relocation activities during renovations; Fiscal year-end financials indicate that there are no accounts receivable and there is a healthy reserve. The rest of the meeting dealt with technical requests from the Executive Director to approve year-end financial certifications and statements and a change order for Countryside Village relating to the addition of some common area interior doors. Vison for Lexington: no update Housing Partnership: John Zhao – Planning Board to join in. Discussed Housing Initiative from States and the changes happening at state level. Changes in regulations for towns. No drafts of zoning or planning changes as of yet. Housing Partnership Board now has a working group vs two sub committees. LexHab managing affordable units. Lexhab through the Board of Selectman to become a 501c3. Next to be voted at Town Meeting. COMPREHENSIVE PLAN ADVISORY COMMITTEE: vacant. MENTAL HEALTH & WELLNESS TASK FORCE: no meeting LEXINGTON CENTER: Sandra Shaw - - Street scape is making progress. Discovery Day now October 8th, 2022. No Human Service tables. New Pop up shops at Depot Square. STRATEGIC EQUITY ADVISORY TEAM: no meeting. Meeting adjourned 3:42pm
