Membership: Nine permanent members and the two most recent award winners willing to
serve (total of 11)
Appointed by: Town Manager
Staff Support: Human Services Department
Length of Term Three years – September 30 appointments
(Reappointments will be phased in such a manner such that the terms of 3 or 4
members will expire each year)
Meeting Times: As needed
Description:
The Committee will be responsible for the annual selection of the Minuteman Cane Award Recipient.
This involves organizing the publicity, managing the selection process, and planning the recognition
ceremony for the recipient.
The Committee is charged to select recipients based on the following guidelines:
1. Lived in Lexington for at least 15 years,
2. Be at least 80 years old,
3. Display involvement in the community,
4. Serve as an inspiration through their actions,
5. Exhibit a creative approach to life through a choice of a second career, hobby or volunteerism.
Prior to serving as a member of this Committee, appointees are required to:
1. Acknowledge receipt of the Summary of the Conflict of Interest statue. Further, to continue to
serve on the Committee the member must acknowledge annually receipt of the Summary of the
Conflict of Interest statute. Said summary will be provided by and acknowledged to the Town
Clerk.
2. Provide evidence to the Town Clerk that the appointee has completed the online training
requirement required by the Conflict of Interest statute. Further, to continue to serve on the
Committee, the member must acknowledge every two years completion of the online training
requirement.
