HomeMy WebLinkAbout1987-03-05-LCC-min.pdf LEXINGTON CENTER COMMIT Minutes - 3/5/87 Present: Marge Battin, Chairman, Bill Bowen, Norma Bogen, Marian Powell, Carla Fortmann, Leo McSweeney (Selectman Liaison), Angela Frick MAPC/Observer) Absent: Bob Ossman (Excused), Dave Wells, Mary Hastings Minutes of 2/4/87 approved as amended. Police Booth • The Selectman have approved as proposed, but to be set back between 18 and 36 inches from the curb: and with a Dutch Door to be located on the east side, with an opening window on the front to be determined. Drive Way at 1775 and Bay Bank The one way proposed was accepted by the Selectman, with a No Left Turn sign to bar traffic turning across Mass Avenue: this change to be reviewed after 6 months to determine any problems. The entire street to be One Way; Bank parking spaces to be painted/marked diagonally, with traffic flow. New Building in Center Nothing to report at this meeting. There was a discussion regarding excess traffic speed and jaywalking rules for the Center to be enforced. Leo McSweeney suggested these points and other rules proposed or on the books to be presented to the Selectman at a future meeting; an article in the paper on these points and caution signs in the Center were also discussed. Chris Venier cannot make the noon meeting times - another businessman to replace him will be dragooned by Bill Bowen and Dave Wells. The Design Advisory Committee will coordinate standardized signs to be located through the Center area. Discussed removing one parking meter oneerriam Street. There was a review discussion regarding Prior-Approved proposals of the earlier CRC and Selectman points 1 thru 14, as outlined on pgs. 35 & 36 in the Lexington Center: Managing Change Report. It was recommended to implement all of these actions (not yet completed) as listed in the Report. It was suggested by Bill Bowen that the Committee members individually acquaint themselves with the new Orange/Sodium street lights recently installed on Mass. Ave. in Arlington; and examine the existing 12 light fixtures on the brick sidewalk between Edison Way and Depot Square, with a further discussion to follow at the March meeting. Page 2 Amenities Recommended to Norma Bola & Bob Ossman for the Design Advisory Committee that 1. 3 Public Telephones be located in the Center 2. 6 Benches be added to the 2 existing at key locations to be explored such as Library, Ingalls, Bay Bank, Bus Stops. 3. Water Fountains be installed for Depot Square; next to the new Police Booth or in the new building. 4. All Parking Signs be coordinated. 5. Planters be coordinated: plants to be directed by the Garden Club. 6. Snow & Ice removal be enforced, and the Town requested to better maintain its responsibility in the Public areas at the Battle Green and Visitors Center area. 7. A Public Rest Room sign be approved and posted at the Visitors Center. 8. Additional Trash recepticals be added in the Center. There was a discussion of Traffic, Access & Parking related to the Center areas - Bowen, Wells and others courageous will review this issue. 2 PM - Meeting adjourned with congratulations to Marge Battin on her election as Town Moderator.
