The Center Revitalization Committee (CRC ) met at 10:00 noon
in the Selectmen 's Meeting Room in the Town Office Builcing in
Lexington. Present from CRC were Chairman Margery Battin,
Mary Hastings , David Wells , Jack Eddison, Stephen Cripps ,
Jacquie Bateson, Joe Trani , and Laura Nichols . Also attending
were Walter Tonaszuck LPW Director, Police Captain Charles
Withrow, Planning Director Bob Bowyer , MAPC representative
Angela Frick and Planning Consultant Norma Bogen.
1. The minutes of September 12, 1985 were approved as amended .
2. Discussion - "Lexington Center: Mananging Change" in draft
form. Chairman Battin lauded the report, as did others , and
discussed how we should go about honing the report into its
final form. While it was felt that we should go through the
report page by page , some of the attendees were under time
constraints due to other appointments . Opportunity was given
to those who had to leave to give their general feelings , obser-
vations , corrections, etc .
DPW Director Tonaszuck approved of the report in general
and felt that it gives him a frame of reference to see that
things are carried out.
Planning Director Bob Bowyer had some comments on the
format::and the reconciliation of differing figures of reports
done by different people at different times . It would be a
help to reconcile these by attribtting the study to the person
or group in the proper time frame with an accompanying explan-
ation when necessary.
Dave 'dells had questions on the businessmen mostly supporting
the cost of parking. Discussion ensued showing that it was a
shared responsibility of the Town and the businessmen/women.
Mr. Wells was not convinced .
Jacquie Bateson made some comments on adjustment of parking
on streets . Wally Tonaszuck said that the ADC sewer line going
through has permitted a few more cars to be squeezed in on
the R.R. right of way. Dr. Vinger on Waltham St . (99 ) requested
some adjustment of the meters in his area. It was decided that
to extend the length of parking time at the meters there would
invite parkers from elswhere and then would not be available
to his clients as wished . The Committee agreed that it would
be wise to recommend that one of the handicap spaces on the
busy corner of Muzzey Street next to the Shawmut County Bank
be made available for a meter and that the handicap space be
relocated to 19 skuzzey Street.
It was agreed that norma Bogen would make note of any changes
as we progressed through the report page by page, in order that
all members could contribute thoughts . We progressed to page
7, and plan to continue at the next meetin`. , which will be •
held November 14 , 1985 at noon.
