Minutes of Meeting of February 12, 2020
A meeting of the Design Advisory Committee (DAC) was held on February 12, 2020 at 7:30 pm in the Hudson Room located on
the second floor of Cary Memorial Hall, Lexington, MA.
Members/Liaisons Present: Tim Lee, Bruce Creager, Steve Vincent, Alenka Slezak, Brigitte Steines, Bahig Kaldas, Suzie Barry
(SB liaison)
Members/Liaisons Absent: Richard Friedson, Caroline Fitzgerald, Bob Creech (PB Liaison)
Approvals: January Meeting minutes reviewed and approved
The Committee meeting reviewed and acted on the following item(s):
Westview Cemetery Building Design presentation
The applicant presented the project and explained the projects background, the state of the existing facility, proposed program
and functions and the projects schedule. The applicant then went on to present the buildings concept and current design for the
building - its massing, floor plan, and the exterior materials being considered.
The Committee had the following questions & comments:
1. Siting of the building and site related work needs further development – drainage, grading, parking, lighting etc. Applicant
commented that they were still early in the process for those components of the project and the focus has been primarily on the
building.
2. The Committee made several comments about the building floor plan particularly the main entrance, the public bathrooms and
the break room.
- Could the break room move to an exterior wall so it could have a window. This could also help the exterior façade.
- Could the vestibule get larger, maybe bump out to allow for another bathroom layout so the bathroom doors would be hidden.
3. The Committee made several comments about the curtain wall screen.
- Could the curtain wall proportions and height change to get taller and longer so it was more of a statement. Maybe also act as a
mechanical screen.
4. Additional questions and comments pertained to the right combination of exterior materials.
- Specifically asking if the aluminum panels are a good choice with the brick. Should the panels go all the way to the ground to
strengthen the visual of the screen wall?
