Selectmen's Meeting Room
Meeting Time: 7:45 A.M.
In attendance: Fernando Quezada(Chair), Ann Redmon, Peter Enrich, Carl Valente,
Candy McLaughlin
The minutes from the previous meeting were approved.
Economic Development Task Force/Town Meeting
Committee members are requested to provide feedback on the draft Economic
Development Advisory Board charge (attached.) The Advisory Board needs to be ready
to go soon after the Task Force submits its final report, so there will be a seamless
transition. Please send comments to Candy McLaughlin at cmclaugh@ci.lexington.ma.us.
The consultant's public presentation of their findings on February 26 at Cary Hall went
well and good feedback was received, although only about 30 people attended due to
rainy weather. The consultants will make revisions and provide their final report in 2-3
weeks. LexMedia taped the meeting and may make it available on demand through their
website. The Task Force will formally submit its final report to the Committee soon after
the consultant's report is completed.
Larry Smith asked the EDTF to take a position on his articles, but the group declined
because they are not an official Town body. Committee members present all agreed that
Task Forces provide research, data analysis, and big-picture perspective and it would not
be appropriate for the EDTF to take a formal position. The EDTF will probably submit a
brief written report to Town Meeting conveying basic information about its work before
the zoning articles come up. Individual members who are on Town Meeting may choose
to speak to the articles.
Demographic Change Scoping Group
Fernando plans to contact scoping group chair Peter Lee to check in and confirm the
report is on track. Candy reported that she has heard little interest about participating on
a future Task Force. Carl has a notice going into next week's Minuteman newspaper, he
will ask for input from the Board of Health at their next meeting, and will contact the
Human Services Committee. Candy will search the Town Census data for people
reporting applicable occupations, such as sociologist, geographer, or economist.
2020 Vision Committee Report to Town Meeting
The group provided suggestions on a draft written report to Town Meeting. Candy will
revise it and send out to the full committee for comments. -
Fernando adjourned the meeting at 8:25 a.m. The next meeting is Tuesday, April 8.
