HomeMy WebLinkAbout2006-07-17-SNOW-min Sidewalk Sub-committee Meeting July 17, 2006 Minutes Next Meeting: Friday September 15 at noon, Selectmen's Conference Room Present: Lisa Baci, Francine Steiglitz, Lisa Baci, and Marianne Lazarus The meeting was called to order at noon. Discussion continued on the 'what we can do' list of the Master Plan Draft (attached). Sidewalk prioritization, Items 1 and 2: Jeanne will divide the master inventory by elementary school district and seek assistance form the Safe Routes to Schools advocates in completing the prioritization. Marianne is interested in working on this and she will receive by mail a hard copy of the Fiske spreadsheet; Lisa a spreadsheet for Clarke, made up of Bowman and Bridge streets. Broad construction guideline: Item 3 We all should write-down the topics and ideas we want considered, adding to the list Lisa will forward to us. At our next meeting we should be prepared to draft some language. Marianne will research stone dust. Snow removal policy including bush trimming, leaf removal, general sidewalk hygiene. Item 5: Assignment for our next meeting is to come with a list it items and topic we believe should be included. We reviewed a list of questions that deal with many of these items, which Francine will develop into an op-ed at the suggestion of Craig Weeks. We really need to get this done. Meeting adjourned at 1 pm. What we can do: Whole Committee: 1. Establish a prioritized list of existing sidewalks needing repair by identifying the conditions that influence the decision and applying these to sidewalks in place a. Safety—heavy auto traffic necessitates b. Current Condition—surface is hazardous and cannot be kept clear of snow and ice c. Usage—highly used area (path to school, path to business, recreation or commercial areas) d. Connectivity—connects two or more highly used paths 2. Establish a list of new sidewalks by applying the criteria of 1 Sub Committee 3. Set broad guidelines for sidewalk construction that consider... Staff and Subcommittee 4. Obtain a cost analysis of new construction and recommend a funding mechanism Subcommittee 5. Recommend a snow removal policy 6. Encourage staff to clarify and communicate the flow of information within departments
