HomeMy WebLinkAbout2005-04-25-CFG-min Minutes of Community Focus Group Subcommittee of the Sidewalk Committee April 25, 2005 Present: Sue Ellen Briggs, Steve Kropper, Lucy Fletcher-Jones, Victoria Buckley, Olga Guttag, Tracey Herbert, Craig Weeks, and Judy Crocker The committee started off the meeting talking about the survey data. Tracey had compiled the results from Fiske and Bridge. Fiske received a total of 19 responses. There needs to be push to get more responses from Fiske. Laura Cecere or Marianne Lemar were two names brought up who could put out a request to the Fiske community letting them know of the importance of this information. Lucy was still working on the data from Bowman as of the meeting. Judy had just picked up the surveys from Harrington. Clarke, Diamond and the High School will publish the survey in their May newsletter. Victoria will check on the surveys at Hastings and Sue Ellen will ask Stephanie to look into the surveys at Estabrook. There was discussion on how the data should be tabulated. It was decided that an excel spreadsheet for each school could then be combined to form Lexington totals. Lucy has set up an Excel spreadsheet for Bowman that could be used by all. The second half of the meeting was spent discussing ways to promote walking. A list was created of organizations we could contact to promote walking and solicit input. Sustainable Lexington Vision 2020 There were also email groups that could be contacted and asked to promote car pooling or walking to their events. These included LUSC, adult softball league, and Tom Diaz's email list. There is a back to school pack, which goes out from all the schools. This could contain information about walking to school. This will need to be done by the end of June. Discovery Day is May 28 in Lexington Center. We would like to have a table to promote walking. There was great interest in having another survey for people to fill out to gain information from a broader group of citizens. Judy cautioned that the anti-idling committee would be handing out a survey in May. Olga suggested we contact Bruce Schweitzer for help in designing the survey. Sue Ellen will contact Walk Boston to see if they have a survey as part of their resources. Sue Ellen will also contact Karen Simmons of the Recreation Department to see if we could share their table at Discovery Day this year. Olga will contact Bill Hurley about scheduling a walk to school day in the spring of 2006. We will meet Monday May 9 at 9:30AM and Tuesday May 17 at 9:30 AM to work on the design of the survey and our message for groups and organizations.
