TOWN MANAGER SEARCH COMMITTEE - MEETING MINUTES JANUARY 6, 2005
The meeting of the Town Manager Search Committee was called to order at 5:30 PM on Thursday, January 6, 2005
at the Town Office Building, Lexington, MA by committee chair Janet Perry.
Attendees
: Search Committee members Janet Perry, Scott Wilson, Barrie Peltz, Richard Pagett, Martha Wood, Bill
Kennedy, Bill Middlemiss, Robert Cataldo, Olga Guttag, Jack Donahue, Cathy Abbott. Finance committees’
liaisons Deborah Brown (Appropriation) and Shirley Stolz (Capital Expenditures). Tom Groux, Consultant.

Theof the meeting of December 15, 2004 were not available for review and will be considered at a later
meeting.
revised timeline
Ms. Perry distributed the as adopted by the Board of Selectmen on 12/17/04, a revised candidate
grid effective 1/6/05, keys to the resume lock box and a letter to the Search Committee from Bob Bicknell, Chair of
the Lexington Housing Partnership.
In discussion of the revised timeline, Ms. Guttag announced that School Superintendent final interviews would be

January 25-27 and suggested that the Town Manager Search Committee conduct preliminary interviews in a week

other than that one. It was decided that preliminary interviews be February 10, 11 and 12, with February 13
held as a snow or illness reschedule date.
The interviews will be conducted by 5 committee members, with all other committee members in attendance as
observers. Interviews will last 45-50 minutes and include time for observer members to ask questions at the end of
the interview. The committee needs at least 15 minutes for discussion after each interview. Because the preliminary
interviews are still at the confidentiality stage, a discreet interview location such as the National Heritage Museum
will be sought.

renewed and will appear on the ICMA website and newsletter and the MMA newsletter.

By unanimous individual vote, the Committee members went into to discuss personnel matters
and consideration of individual candidates. The Committee did not return to open session.
On a motion (Ms. Guttag) and second, the meeting was adjourned at 7:15 PM.

The of the Search Committee will be Thursday, January 20, 2005 at 5:30 PM at the Town Office
Building.
