Article 31 will be Indefinitely Postponed
Expect an Article in a May Special Town Meeting: $72K for Clarke sprinklers. Univents drop below
ceiling and obstruct the sprinkler pattern. This doesn't meet code. The Town accepted the shop drawing
and installation as installed. Our engineer and fire chief discovered this as part of the new univent
installation. We need approximately 60 new sprinkler heads.
Article 31-Supplement for Estabrook Elementary School` soil-Tank Removal & Boiler Up~r~ade
Will be Indefnitely Postponed. $50K appropriation to remove oil tank previously appropriated. During
design, oil price rose to $140/barrel. Decided to put in gas boilers instead of just converting burners.
This would require asbestos mitigation. Would have needed the $85K supplement.
Now they have a new gas contract with a lower energy cost so the return on investment is now 6 years
(it was 1 year). They're still going to replace the burners and remove the tank. The Master Plan will be
presented to the School Committee on 3/17/09. That will address the capital needs in the four
elementary schools.
Review of the Superintendent's Recommended Capital Budget
$125K Building Envelope to address Clark issues.
$SOK School Accessibility issuesbuilding entrances at five school-building entrances. Will ask for
$60K next year. Harrington (2), 3 unknown, but TBD by school administration.
Review of articles and positions.
Article 13 (Purchase of Busa Lnad) is likely to be Indefinitely Postponed.
Adjourn: 10:25am
