Messrs Steeves, Emery , Shanahan and Spencer were present.
The list of uncollected 1941 Poll Taxes submitted by the Tax Col-
lector was examined and the Assessors voted to abate the taxes and
signed the abatement slips.
There were 154 names on the list, and the reasons why the taxes were
uncollected were written opposite each names.
Amount abated being for $308.00.
Six (6) Assessors Notice in accordance with the provisions of
General Laws, Chapter 59, Section 29 to all persons subject to Taxation
in the Town of Lexington were signed by the Assessors.
One notice to be posted, on Town Office Building bullentin board and
one in each of the four Precinct. Voting Cabinets.
Four department bills were approvedandsigned for payment.
The Selectmen at their meeting . held Nov. 24th voted to authorize
the Assessors to abate the Apportioned Sewer Assessments assessed to
R. Lockwood Tower et al on Lots #33,34,35,36 'on Richard Road. Better-
ments on these lots committed as of Dec. 16, 1940.
Reason for abatement being because these lots are lower than the
sewer main, unable to be serviced unless a great deal of filling is
done.

The Assessors also voted to abate the balance ofthe sewer assess-

The Assessors at this meeting voted -to cancel and withdraw from
the Tax Collector the following 1941 apportioned betterment assessment
abatements which were granted under date of Aug. 19, 1941.

These two apportioned assessments belonged on property owned by
Caroline W. Parsons; said lots are located on Farmcrest Avenue.
The Assessors at this meeting voted to reassess the following 1941

Mr. Spencer informed the Assessors that Mary Manley was not satis-
fied with the 1941 valuation reduction granted on her property located-
at
ocatedat #20 Parker Street and that her attorney had asked him to have the
Board reconsider the application and grant her an additional abatement
or else he would have to go before the Appellate Tax Board.
The Assessors at this meeting again considered the assessment
(of 47500)and voted to reduce the assessment $1000 more, thus making
the total assessment $6500.
The Assessors appointed the following Assistant Assessors for the
year 1942: Richard E. Truesdell
Roland E. Garmon
George F. Smith Frederic B. Hunneman
Frederick J. Spencer - Alexius R. Shea-
Mr. Spencer informed the Board that he had been in communication
with Mr. Thomas H. Twitchell of the Home Owners Loan Corporation in
regard to four 1941 real estate abatement applications which the Board
at some previous meeting voted-that no reduction be made on the 1941
assessments.
Mr. Twitchell told Mr. Spencer that if the 1941 assessments on the
following parcels were reduced the amounts set against them that they
would not go before the Appellate Tax Board;
10 Berwick Road p400 reduction
1454 Mass, Ave. 500 reduction
24 Oakland St. 500 reduction -
83 Cary Avenue 800 reduction

The Assessors hearing the facts _from Mr. Spencer again con-
sidered the applications and voted to grant the reductions asked
for.
Taxes abated for the following amounts $12.56, 015.70, 41;15.70
and X25.12.
Letter received from Mrs. Margaret R. Wright of 987 Waltham St. ,
was considered and the Board having viewed her property voted at
this meeting to grant her an abatement of $31.40 on her 1941 tax
bill.
As Mrs. Wright, widow, bad no mortgage on her property this
abatement had to be granted under Clause 18, Sec. 5. of Chap. 59.
Letter from Selectman Giroux dated Nov. 25th, requesting the
Board to consider the abatement of the 1941. real estate tax stand-
ing in the name of Gertrude E. Cochran of 8 Stratham Road, was con-
sidered and the Bdard voted to abate the total amount of her 1941
tax,
The Board knew this was a worthy case and voted to grant the
abatement under Clause 18.
