The Assessors were asked to appear before the Selectmen and the Appropriation Committee at 8 P. M. and _to discuss the matter of the 1940 tax rate..• Written authority from the Selectmen to the Assessors to abate the sum of $135.00 on the Water. Assessment Of Lulu M. Blake was received, so the Assessors signed the abatement slips at this meet- ing. Commissioner Long gave the Assessors authorityto abate $68.86 on the real estate taxes of Harriet M. Kingsley. This letter from the Commissioner was dated Sept. 24, 1938. No definite action was taken on the written authority under Sec. 8 of Chap. 58,G.L. because no separate amounts were given for each year. As Town Treasurer Carroll was about to foreclose on certain parcels of real estate and these Kingsley lots now assessed to Albert R. MacKusick and George R. Clause 18. Gasoline transfer bill for the sum of 01.28 was approved and signed by the Board for payment. 1939` poll taxes amounting to $86.00 were abated by `the Board. The Board having looked at Marion R. Coughlints property located at #52 Dexter Road voted at -this meeting to reduce the house assess- ment $500, thus granting her an abatement of $17.75 on her 1939 real estate tax bill. Mrs. Coughlin had filed her petition with the Appellate Tax Board because the Board at a prior meeting voted that no reduction be made on her 1939 assessment. The Board having considered the letter dated Jan. 01\! 1940 from Mr. T. Gregory Sullivan, representative for the closed tanks owning property in Lexington The Board viewed the five parcels that were listed in his letter and at a previous meeting voted to make certain valuation reductions.
