Semiquincentennial Commission (Lex250) LEXINGTON MA
April 13, 2022 Meeting Minutes
Pursuant to notice duly filed with the Town Clerk, the Semiquincentennial Commission
(Lex250) convened in a meeting via Zoom video conference on April 13, 2022 at
3:37 pm as allowed by legislation (S.2475) extending the suspension of certain provisions of the
Massachusetts Open Meeting Law.
Present: Suzie Barry (Select Board Member), Steve Conners (Reenactment Community), Barry
Cunha (Local Business Representative), Bebe Fallick(Tourism Committee Representative),
Cerise Jalelian (Town Celebrations Committee Representative), Julie O'Leary (Civic
Representative), Mona Roy (Community Representative) and Jillian Tung (Music &Arts
Representative), Michael Froning (Guest Attendee)
1. The meeting was called to order at 3:37 pm by Ms. Barry.
2. A motion by Ms. Barry to accept the minutes from the March 23, 2022 meeting as
amended and corrected was seconded by several committee members and approved by
roll call vote.
3. Updates and discussion
a. Logo contest
i. Ms. Tung met with the 3 award winners and discussed procedures for the
Patriots Day opening ceremony.
ii. Ms. Tung will coordinate printing and mounting of the logos for public
display and will arrange for the printing of 3 large checks to be given to
the award winners during the ceremony.
iii. Ms. Barry will arrange to have actual checks drawn from the Town for the
monetary awards
iv. Possibilities for commemorative items using the logo were discussed:
baseball caps, bucket hats, buttons, magnets, T-shirts, pens, and other
items.
V. Ms. Fallick suggested meeting with Visitors Center staff for
recommendations on specific items
vi. Expenditure for 500 1 '/2 inch diameter buttons for Discovery Day was
approved by roll call vote.
b. Email account
i. Ms. Barry shared that the Lex250 Commission has a new email account
with the Town. We need to assign someone to check it regularly.
c. Discovery Day
i. Following group discussion, we decided to register for a booth at
Discovery Day, which will take place on May 28, 2022
ii. Participation will allow us to engage with the community about the
Semiquincentennial and recruit volunteers
iii. Ms. Barry will register the committee
iv. The booth will be staffed by Ms. Roy, Ms. O'Leary, and Ms. Tung

i. The need to engage with the community and key stakeholders was
discussed
ii. Venues, including indoors vs. outdoors, were discussed
iii. Mr. Conners suggested exploring whether we could use a tent that would
be erected for an event for LABB students
iv. Ms. Barry suggested using a tent at the Community Center
V. After discussion regarding possible dates, Wednesday, June 15, at 10 am
and in the afternoon/evening was agreed upon for the first meeting
e. Video project
i. Ms. Barry shared a draft of the introductory video that was prepared by
Mr. Cole.
f. Local & State updates
i. Ms. Barry indicated that the Commission needs to prepare a report for the
Select Board by mid-May
4. Other items
a. Ms. Fallick shared a postcard from Freedom's Way
b. Mr. Conners shared educational materials being prepared for other 250th
anniversary celebrations (Boston Tea Party, Boston Massacre, and other historical
events). He called attention to Gaspee Days, which will commemorate the
burning of the British ship Gaspee, one of the earliest events leading up to the
Revolutionary War. Gaspee Days will be held in Rhode Island on June 11. Ms.
Roy added that the Fife and Drum Corps will participate this year.
c. Mr. Conners shared events being planned by Revolution250.
d. Mr. Froning, a guest attendee, was welcomed to speak and discussed his
involvement with the America 250 effort
Next meeting: Wednesday, April 27, 2022 at 3:30 pm via Zoom.
Adjourn: The meeting was adjourned by roll call vote at 4:54 pm.
