HomeMy WebLinkAbout2022-05-04-COA-min RECEIVED Council of Aging Board Meeting 2022 07 Juin, 1 r piii i Town of Lexington May 4, 2022 TOWN CLERK 2:32-3:59 PM LEXINGTON MA Zoom Video Conference Present: Julie-Ann Shapiro, Betty Borghesani, Bonnie Teitleman, Camille Goodwin, Ellen Cameron,John Zhao, Sudhir Jain, Sandra Shaw, Jyotsna Kakullavarapu, Sue Rockwell, Julie Barker Staff: Michelle Kelleher, Melissa Interess, Christine Dean, Hemali Shah Julie-Ann Shapiro called the meeting via zoom to order at 2:32 PM, took attendance. Public Comments: Norma Floyd (thru husband Chris Floyd) noted that 21% of Lexington are seniors. The National Village Movement/Lexington at Home has excluded many seniors and rejected some.They believe people need more help from Lexington at Home Review and Approval of April minutes with one correction of Maureen Ryan's name in Lexington Housing Presentation: Lexington at Home by Gary Fallick, Howard Cloth, Ove Bjerregaard • Recently welcomed Sudhir and Betty to a LAH chapter • Interested in working w/COA, Human Services, other town resources; look for ideas to enhance life for seniors o Example/idea: Uber-type van for Lexington seniors, similar to Newton program • New website will be launched soon, Evelyn Silber displayed part of it • Membership plateaued since pandemic • Publication to seniors happens at Discovery Days, Farmer's Market, Museum, health fairs, did have info in SAGE, hope to do again • Melissa Interess referred Gary and others to Age Friendly Working Group, Julie-Ann and John Staff Reports: Michelle Kelleher, Senior Services Coordinator o Walk Mass Challenge have 100 people who met 4/30 for Walk from 5/1-10/1, 4 people o Volunteered today, hope Team Lexington/COA will win money from Mass COA o Mental health programs going on in May Melissa Interess, Director Human Services • Window Pane Shop closed, considering ideas for the vacant space, honoring volunteers • Michelle has been especially busy RECEIVED 022 07 Juin, 1 A0 pin't TOWN CLERK LEXINGTON MA Christine Dean, Director of Community Center • The new sidewalk at the Community Center has had concrete poured, will finish up • Great turnout for walking challenge New Business • Ellen noted that a colleague commented on how much COA is doing for seniors • John, Julie-Ann, Ellen will meet with the new police chief 5/6. • Discovery Day 5/28 Liaison Reports Transportation-Sudhir Jain- Hope to collect money for public education, road maintenance, public transportation to help communities be livable and healthy; Zero Program-road map for roles and responsibilities to reduce traffic deaths; Lexpress and LexConnect contracts end 6/23, transportation manager wants a group on what to do-new buses, vans FCOA- Sudhir Jain- request from Michelle K and Christine D for$17,000 to cover tent rental Minuteman Senior Services- Sudhir Jain is captain of walking team with target of collecting $250, need $50 more Presentation to MMSS by SHINE (Serving Heath Info Needs of Everyone) Commission on Disability-Bonnie Teitleman- Discussion w/Mark Connor HDC on plans to move and modify Hosmer House, next to Police Dept; presentation by Kathleen Dalton on the Stone Building ideas for use Recreation Committee Julie Ann Shapiro no update Lexington Housing-Susan Rockwell no update Comprehensive Plan Advisory Committee- no update Vision for Lexington-Jyotsna Kakullavarapu- hope to develop website of community groups will connect to main website; 9.6% response rate to community survey; subcommittee to encourage residents to vote; Housing Partnership-John Zhao- no meeting April Mental Health Task Force-Ellen Cameron- no meeting; Town doing a lot for mental health month Lexington Center Committee-Sandra Shaw- parking lot redesign behind CVS; center project complete by 2025, will be better for pedestrians, cyclists Strategic Equity Advisory Ellen Cameron Presentation on Stone library, need chair car for Lexpress, upcoming meeting Meeting adjourned by Julie-Ann at 3:58PM Next meeting of COA : June 1, 2022 2:30 -4PM location TBD Submitted by Bonnie Teitleman
