The Board of Selectmen authorized the Assessors to abate the 1939, apportioned Sewer Assessment and committed interest item that was billed to Miss Mary S. Reardon of 22 Vine Street. The Assessors at this meeting voted to abate the two amounts,` namely<< 518.00 and $9.72, and they signed the three abatement slips. Lawson of 277 Vermont Street,, W. Roxbury, filed a statutory exemption application far help on his 1939. real estate tax bill for property located at #502 Marrett Road. The Assessors viewed his property and did not feelit was over assessed and they voted no valuation reduction. . On account of Mr. Lawson living out oft own and because his pro- perty is rented and he receives a pension the hoard voted that no exemption be allowed on his 1939 real estate tax bill. Mr. Lawson was notified of the decision of the Board on his two applications. - , , , The Clerk was instructed toewrite to Mr. Edwin Worthen and in- form him that the Assessors viewed the Bank property located at #45 Hancock Street and at this meeting they-voted that,..no reduction :0 be made on the house assessment. ,The Board felt it would-be the best thing for the Bank to go ahead with their plans and demolish the house. The-Board voted to abathe balance due on Mr. Thomas G. Whiting's ' 1938 real estate tax bill. The Board requested Commissioner Long's authority on this,matter. 1 Abatement to be granted under Clause 18 after Commissioner, Long's authority to the Board,is received. . The Old post Office property located at 18-20 Waltham street was 1 assessed for $22,640 as of ,Jan., 1st, 1939 to Henry C., Brookings of Medford. -- e e T7uring the., summer of, 1939, the Assessors viewed the property and � they fell that the property was over assessed, building had been idle since the; Post Office was erected. , ; The Assessors agreed with the new owner of the property that they would abate that part of the 1939 real estate tax on the valuation ' ' over $12,000.• The new owner Florence P. Cleveland filed theapproved , abatementapplication and the Assessors abated the sum of $377.72 on , the 1939 tax bill. 0 Abatement granted on ,a valuation of $10,640. The Assessors requested that the three real estate applioationsbe , returned to -Jennie D. Segal of 80 Boylston -Street, Boston, requesting hem at once to the her to fill out the applications ein full and return t e data before actingon the Assessors so that they- can. have.. the full abatement applications. e ; I c The Board considered the statutory exemption application received from Philip P. Leaf ,of 30 Oottage Street but no definite action was taken because ,there are back taxes due on his property since 1935. ' Matter laid on the table.,. The Board reconsidered the statutory exemption application of Cedar Street, but the board voted that y Mary A. Ferry, widow, of 32 , abatement begranted to this party--at the present time. no further , For several years the Assessors svoted to grant this party an abate- ment ment on $1000 - under Clause 18, and in 1938 the abatement was put thru on $2000 under Clause 17 thru error. , g\ The Assessors went out various days ai .viewed many of the real estate parcels on which the owners had filed applications on and at this meeting the full board was, informed of the valuation reductions suggested,and Mr. Shanahan's motion to accept the reductions made was seconded and the full Board voted in favor of the abatement granted. Mr. Spencer, Secretary of the Board, was given authority to sign' all the abatement slips covering the various abatements voted at this meeting. The Assessors signed the schedule lists of abatements granted. The Board discussed the matter of raising some of the land assessments around the center of the Town that had been benefited by the Vine Brook drainage project. The Board felt that the two lots on Sherman Street owned by Walter H. Peirce et al of Arlington, should be increased as of January 1st, 1940. (assess at lOri per sq ft. ) Any other lots or area that were benefited will also be increased. When the various betterment improvements are put in the Ryder vacant land the assessment should be increased consider-- ably. The Board agreed to go out Friday, December 1st, and looked at some more of the parcels of real estate that the owners filed applications on. C/ r Secretary he Board. • li
