Patel, Shawn Wood, Kristen Gray. David Pittman, Erin, Zeba McGibbon, Maria Totniou, Sarah Majors and Sejal Patel 1) Recess seating: a) Outside lunch: where they sit is an option with their grade level b) Inside lunch: they sit with their classroom (sometimes assigned and sometimes free, depending on classroom dynamics and teachers decide what is appropriate Kids have can often earn something as a classroom. Sometimes allowing free seating indoors has created social issues over the benefits, such as "I am saving this seat etc." 2) Conferences: a) Teachers will always make more time if parents would like this so, please ask. b) Sometimes teachers choose to have more time if they feel that is needed proactively. c) In person conferences were an option and several parents chose this. d) Possible suggestion for teachers: have extra 5-10 mins buffer between conference times so if one ran over it is not coming from the next student time. Meg: teachers have allotted time in their contracts for conferences. Though, all teachers are flexible, parents are encouraged to use the time wisely. 3) Update on the world language program: It is going to come 2023-2024 year in elementary school. Three world languages offered in the school systems is being considered: French, Spanish and Mandarin. a) Not much update on exactly how and what will be offered at what schools. b) No decisions have been made; different working group has been discussing on how to accommodate this into the schedule. There are also some other new curriculum's coming. Different teachers will be piloting these programs. a. Health curriculum b. DEI (Diversity, equity and inclusion) curriculum When these extra learnings are added, it is taking time away from math and languages. Different scheduling options have to be piloted before the decisions can be made. Joy in learning celebration coming up on Tuesday (55 people various community members, School committee members, PTA, SBC across the district are invited, and so far 22 parents have signed up). Other updates: Big should out to PTA for such a fantastic job: Kira, Aga and Nikki you are rocking this. a) Science fair was a big success; more participants than previous years, quality of the projects and students' engagement was very high. b) International festival: 18 country tables, community groups came and gave performances. c) Spelling Bee: again, big success. d) Sign up for 5K e) Teacher appreciation week has been greatly appreciated by the staff. Thank you to all that contributed to making this happen. f) Music: Chorus is coming back to next year. There are some songs already planned for all school meeting next week and 5th grade graduation songs.
