1. Approved the October, 2021 meeting minutes.
2. Moved LHS School Council meeting on December 6 to December 13 because of conflict with
the LEF Trivia Bee.
3. School Innovation Plan Discussion in break out groups
• Continuing discussion on the district strategic plan goal to address and narrow equity
gaps: What in your view are the highest leverage approaches we could take to identify,
address and narrow equity gaps?
• Started discussion on the strategic plan goal to redefine success:
• How is success defined at LHS in your view?
• How should success be defined at LHS in your view?
• Homework: Review discussion points and look at upcoming questions to consider in
future meetings.
4. Updates and Discussion
• Advisory Update
• Cancelled for November and on hold for now. Feedback has been that the
Advisory meetings have not been very effective as scheduled during the long
lunch block. Need to look at the schedule to see if Advisory can be moved and
what can be done for the rest of the year. Not sure if this is possible.
• 1/2 Day early release days for MS/HS
• Additional half days (roughly monthly) have been adopted by the School
Committee for Middle and High school for this school year. The additional
teacher preparation time is needed to adjust curriculum and respond to the needs
of students after last year. There is a high level of student requests for level
changes as both teachers and students adjust to the return to full time school. This
will have a small impact on Time on Learning.
• Interior Chinatown
Lexington High School 1 251 Waltham Street I Lexington,MA 102421
• Assembly and author presentation on November 3 during F -block. Alternatives
for students without F block in their schedule that day include attending in the
auditorium and live-streaming by LexMedia. A recording of the event will be
available for 30 days.
• Budget-Requesting
• Additional FTE positions to accommodate anticipated increase in the number of
students (3.3 FTE for 37 additional students).
• Additional stipends for competitive clubs.
• Additional Campus Monitor
5. Other Business
• Online transaction Fees for school charges (like Sports,Arts etc.) - these fees seem very
high for credit card payments. This is set at the district level. Fees for using a bank
account are much lower- need to select this payment type. "clarification/correction:
fees for credit cards and bank transfers are the same; there is the option to drop off a
check and not pay the fees.
• AP exams
• Offer AP exams when LHS does not have corresponding class: e.g. AP
Environmental Science or English
• Allow students not taking an AP class to take AP exam: e.g. AP Mandarin or AP
Music Theory
• LHS administers 2000 AP tests in a three-week period. This is a huge
undertaking. A few years ago, the decision was made to only offer AP tests for
LHS classes that are offered as a way to manage the logistical load. There are
several tests that are not offered, but are requested by students, resulting in many
additional requests. These would all have to be accommodated if a change in
policy was considered. In addition, some tests that are offered (World Languages
and Music Theory)require specialized equipment. Students taking these classes at
LHS are prioritized first and followed by requests from students not in the class if
space is available. AP is not allowing online tests this year.
