HELD AT THE TOWN OFFICE BTTILDTNG, MONDAY

The meeting was opened in the office of the Town
Accountant at 8:00 P.M. , by Chairman Lewis L. Hoyt, with
the following members in attendance:

Minutes of the Meeting Feld January 15, 1945.

It was regularly moved and voted to dispense
with the reading of the minutes of the regular meeting
held January 15, 1945.

The Secretary went over the Budget sheets with
the members to familiarize them with changes made by
the Selectmen on Personal Services Budgets. At 8:30 P.M.
the Appropriation Committee met with the Board of Select-
men to go over the Budgets for the year 1945.
The first Budget discussed was Selectmen' s JDepart-
ment - Personal Services. The Board of Selectmen are
asking $35.00 a weel' , plus 15/, plus $2.00 for the
Executive Clerk, and $22.00 a week, plus 15/, plus $1.00
for Miss Doherty as she is considered a Senior Clerk
instead of a Junior Clerk.
The next Budget discussed was Foreclosure
Redemption of Tax Titles. The Total Approved $2,b00,00.

The Board of Selectmen stated that the S2, 500.00
was necessary as a number of parcels of. land had been
turned over to vr. Tri ghtin ton to straighten out as
rRr. Carroll has not taken care of them. By straightening
out these parcels, the Town in turn will make money as
the land will then be ready for sale by the Town.
A motion was made, seconded and voted to
approve this Budget in the amount of $2,500.00.
Assessors' Department - Personal Services
The Board of Selectmen stated that the item
of 11,000.00 for Assessors should be in the Expense Budget
the same as the Selectmen' s . The Secretary of the Ap-
pronri_etion Committee stated that this matter was taken
up with the D;vi son of Accounts a year ago, and he was
informed that such a change could not be made without a
vote of the Town. It was finally decided to keep the
S1,000.00 in the Personal Services Budget.
The Board of Selectmen are recommending that
the Clerk' s salary be increased to the yearly rate of
2,950.00, plus a 155 salary increase.
Registrations Department - Personal Services
The Board of Selectmen Questioned the .$800.00
asked for Assistant Registrars as they felt that this
figure was h.i.crh due to the fact that the Assessors had
,lust completed similar work at a lower figure.
Police Denartment - personal Services
The Board of Selectmen want to make the
Chief's salary at- the rate of $3,500 .00 a year; the
Sergeants ' pay to be twelve cents more a day, above the
regular bay, plus the lb%; Patrolmen' s salary ten cents
more a day above the regular pay, plus the 15% increase;
the lieutenant' s fourteen cents more a day above the
regular ray, plus 15(g increase.
Fire Department - Personal Services
The Board of Selectmen want to make the Deputy
Chief' s salary $3,450.00 per year, plus $50.00 which he
receives as Forest t
arden, making a total of X3,500.00

is the same salary suggested for the Chief
of Police.

The Privates are to receive the same pay as
the Patrolmen of the police Department; the Captains to
receive the same pay as the Lieutenant, Master Mechanics
to receive the same pay as the Sergeants.
T"tel ahts Pr Measures - Personal Services
The Board of Selectmen stated that the Sealer
should not receive the 15% salary increase as he is a
part-time worker.
Insect Suppression - Personal Services
The B-ard of Selectmen recommend that the
Snoerintendent's rate of pay be X400.00 a year.
Health Department - Personal Services
The Board of Selectmen state that the
Inspector should not receive the 15% salary increase as
he is only a part-time worker.
Milk inspection - Personal Services
The Board of Selectmen state that the
Inspector should not receive the 15% salary increase as
he is a part-time worker.
Street Lights
The Board of Selectmen have approved the sum
of 1325,200.00 for 1 :00 A.M. lighting. The reason for this
is that several complaints and requests have been made
by the citizens of the Town, and it is up to the Town
Meeting Members to approve or disapprove this Budget.
Public welfare Budgets
The Boai+d of Selectmen stated that Mr. Lyons,
Chairman of the Board of Public Welfare, had been before
them and was going to check with the Civil Service with
regards to the salaries of the Welfare Worker and Clerks .
No further action T,ras taken on these Personal Services
Budgets.
Public Welfare - Town Physician - Total Approved
5197.50.
The Board of Selectmen stated that there would
be no Town Physician after April 1, 1945 so the Budget was

changed to provide sufficient money to pay the present
Town Physi clan to Ar)ril 1, 1945.
A motion was made, seconded and voted to approve
this Budget in the amount of $187.50.
Parks Playgrounds - Personal Services
The Board of Selectmen recommend that the
salary of the ,Superintendent be changed from 11,900.00
to '%2, 150.00.
Printing - Town Reports
The Board of Selectmen feel that $900.00
will be sufficient to take . car_ e of the expense of the
Town Reports .
At 10:30 P.M. ,, the Appropriation Committee
reconvened in the Town Accountant' s office and for the
next half hour had a 7eneral discussion on suggested
changes by the Board of Selectmen on Personal Services
Rudets.
