HELD AT THE TOWN OFFICE BUILDING, MONDAY
i,vFNING, JANUARY 10, 1944.
Notification of this meeting was furnished to all mem-
bers of the Committee by letter.
The meeting was opened in the office of the Town Account-
ant at 8:00 P.M. , by Chairman Lewis L. Hoyt, with the following
members in attendance :

Minutes of the Meeting Held January 3, 1944.
It was regularly moved and voted to dispense with the
reading of the minutes of the regular meeting held January 3, 1944.

The Secretary was instructed to prepare a schedule for
each member of the Appropriation Committee, showing the appropria-
tion this year against the appropriation last year of the differ-
ent accounts, and the increase or decrease as the case may be.
The following budgets were discussed and approved:
Appropriation Committee - Personal Services - Total Approved d400.00
A motion was made, seconded and voted to approve this bud-
get in the amount of $400.00.
Appropriation Committee - Expenses - Total Approved $500.00
The amount asked for the printing of reports was reduced
to 3225.00.
A motion was made, seconded and voted to approve this
budget as revised in the amount of 3500.00.

Accounting Department - Personal Services - Total Approved 45 089.00
The amount asked for the Accountant was reduced to
$2,950.00. This is based on a salary of 43,000.00 a year.
The amount asked for the Senior Clerk was reduced to
41,225.00. This is based on a weekly salary of .424.00.
The amount asked for the Junior Clerk was reduced to
4913.00. This is based on a weekly salary of 418.00.
A motion was made, seconded and voted to approve this
budget as revised in the amount of $5,089.00.
Accounting Department - Expenses - Total Approved $350.00
The amount asked for association dues was omitted.
The amount asked for State Forms was reduced to $75.00.
A motion was made, seconded and voted to approve this
budget as. revised in the amount of '350.00.
Treasurer' s Department - Personal Services - Total Approved 1,521.83
The amount asked for the Treasurer was reduced to
41,000.00.
The amount asked for the clerk was reduced to 4521.83.
This is based on a weekly salary of 422.00, one-half charged to
Treasurer' s Department and the other half charged to the Town
Clerk' s Department.
A motion was made, seconded and voted to approve this
budget in the amount of 41,521.83.
Treasurer' s Department - Expenses - Total Approved „500.75
A motion was made, seconded and voted to approve this
budget in the amount of 4500.75.
Foreclosure & Redemption of Tax Titles - Total Approved 4500.00
A motion was made, seconded and voted to approve this
budget in the amount of %500.00. The balance of ? 394.50, now in
this appropriation, is to be carried forward to be used in the
year 1944.
Other Finance Offices & Accounts - Total Approved 450.00
The amount asked for certifying notes was reduced to
450.00.

A motion was made, seconded and voted to approve this
budget in the amount of $50.00.
Collector' s Department - Personal Services - Total Approved $5,093.17
The amount asked for. the Collector was reduced to
02,850.00.
The amount asked for the Senior Clerk was reduced to
$1,304.17. This is based on a weekly salary of ;$25.00.
The amount asked for the Junior Clerk was reduced to
$939.00. This is based on a weekly salary of $18.00.
A motion was made, seconded and voted to approve this
budget as revised in the amount of $5,093.17.
Collector' s Department - Expenses - Total Approved $1,448.00
A motion was made, seconded and voted to approve this
budget in the amount of ; 1,448.00.
Assessors' Department - Personal Services - Total Approved : 6,117.17
The amount asked for the Senior Clerk was reduced to
$1,304.17. This is based on a weekly salary of : 25.00.
The amount asked for the Junior Clerk was reduced to
$913.00. This is based on a weekly salary of ;$18.00.
A motion was made, seconded and voted to approve this
budget as revised in the amount of x$6,117.17.
Assessors ' Department - Expenses - Total Approved $450.00
The amount asked for postage and supplies was reduced to
$150.00.
The amount asked for transfer fees was reduced to $115.00.
The amount asked for travel and meeting expenses was re-
duced to $10. is ad
A motion was made, seconded and voted to approve this
budget as revised in the amount of x$450.00.
Law Department - Personal Services & Special Fees - Total Approved -
$1,500.00
The amount asked for special fees for the Town Counsel
was reduced to $500.00,

A motion was made, seconded and voted to approve this
budget as revised in the amount of $1,500.00.
Law Department - Expenses - Total Approved $500.00
The amount asked for the entire budget was reduced to
$500.00.
A motion was made, seconded and voted to approve this
budget as revised in the amount of $500.00.
Town Clerk' s Department - Personal Services - Total Approved $2,321.83
The amount asked for the clerk was reduced to $521.83.
This is based on a weekly salary of $22.00, one-half charged to
the Treasurer' s Department and the other half charged to the Town
Clerk' s Department.
A motion was made, seconded and voted to approve this
budget as revised in the amount of $2,321.83.

Chairman Lewis L. Hoyt then spoke about the salary re-
port as to whether this Committee were going to revise it or
whether it was the function of the Board of Selectmen. After a
lengthy discussion, it was voted that the Secretary write the
Board of Selectmen as follows :
"Voted that this Committee thinks it advisable that a
Town Committee be appointed to study and revise the
salary schedule of Town Employees and that on this Town
Committee there will be one member from the Board of
Selectmen and one member from the Appropriation Commit-
tee."
After this vate was passed, there was a further discus-
sion and finally the maker of the original motion, Ronald D.„ Brown,
made a motion that the previous motion be rescinded and that the
matter be discussed at a later date. A motion was made, seconded
and voted to rescind the original motion and to discuss this mat-
ter at a later date.
Chairman Lewis L. Hoyt asked whether the Secretary had
received the Personal Services Budgets of the Public Works Depart-
ment. The Secretary said that he had not received them. The Sec-
retary was then requested to write Mr. Paxton and ask when we could

expect to receive his Personal Services Budgets.
The meeting adjourned at 10:55 P.M.
