HELD AT THE TOWN OFFICE BUITDING, MONDAY
EVENING, JULY 26, 1943. . .
The meeting was opened in the Town Accountant's office
at 8:00 P.M. , by Chairman Lewis L. Hoyt, with the following members
in attendance :

Minutes of the Meeting Held June 7, 1943.
It was regularly moved and voted to dispense with the
reading of the minutes of the regular meeting held June 7, 1943.

Chairman Lewis L. Hoyt read a letter from the Board of
Selectmen where they voted to reduce the automobile allowance of
the Sealer of Weights and Measures from $200.00 per year to ; 150.00
per year. Mr. Lamont, the present Sealer of Weights and Measures,
was willing to accept this reduction.
Motion was made, seconded and voted to approve this re-
duction in automobile allowance for the Sealer of Weights and
Measures from $200.00 to $150.00 per year.
Chairman Lewis L. Hoyt sp&ke about the bill from the
Commonwealth of Massachusetts to the Accounting Department for
supplies from February 5, 1943, to March 25, 1943, amounting to
$376.87. The Town Accountant has requested that it be paid from
the Reserve Fund instead of being assessed in the State Tax. After
a general discussion a motion was made, seconded and voted that
a sum not to exceed $400.00 be transferred from the Reserve Fund to
the Accounting Department - Expense Account. It was further de-
cided that next year a sufficient amount will be included in the
Accounting Department budget to take care of supplies purchased from
the State.

Chairman Lewis L. Hoyt read letters from the Committee
on Public Safety and the Board of Selectmen requesting transfers
from the $15,000.00 Committee on Public Safety Fund to the follow-
ing accounts :
$200.00 for Administration, Operation and
Miscellaneous Expenses
100.00 for Air Raid Wardens
250.00 for Personal Services and Clerical
Work
300.00 for the Report Center and Telephone
Account
50.00 for the Mounted Patrol
X900.00
A motion was made, seconded and voted to approve the
request of 13900.00 to be transferred from the Committee on Public
Safety Fund to the above-named accounts.
The Secretary of the Appropriation Committee was requested
to obtain from the Secretary of the Committee on Public Safety a
copy of the approvals of expenditures from the 015,000.00 Committee
on Public Safety Fund.
Chairman Lewis L. Hoyt read a letter from the Board of
Selectmen where they voted to approve the payment of approximately
$68.00 additional compensation to A. J. Bevington, a military
substitute on the full-time force of the Lexington Fire Department.
As this amount is to be taken from the Fire Department - Personal
- Services Account, no action was taken.
Chairman Hoyt spoke about the Salary Report and felt that
it should be considered, as adjustments were necessary on account
of the present conditions. A motion was made, seconded and voted
that a letter be written to the Board of Selectmen relative to the
present Salary Report. Chairman Hoyt is to draft such a letter.
The Police Department was discussed in regards to their
automotive equipment. One of the new cars purchased a year ago is
still in storage.
George C. Sheldon, Selectman, entered the meeting at
9:05 P.M. relative to the settlement of the land-taking case of
Mr. Reinap on Spring Street. The settlement is to be $100.00 and
the Board of Selectmen decided to pay the same out of the Law De-

partment - Expense Account. There are insufficient funds in this
account so the Selectmen requested a transfer of 125.00 from the
Reserve Fund to the Law Department - Expense Account. A motion was
made, seconded and voted that we transfer the sum of, t25.00 from the
Reserve Fund to the Law Department - Expense Account.
Chairman Hoyt then spoke to George C. Sheldon, stating that
this Committee wished to make him a little gift because of his good
and faithful leadership while he was Chairman of this Committee.
Then Chairman Hoyt presented George C. Sheldon with a package, which
George opened and found it to be a pipe. He thanked the Committee
and said that he certainly appreciated a good pipe. After George C.
Sheldon left this meeting, Chairman Hoyt spoke in general about the
School Department budget and said he felt that we should try to
know more about it as it represented 35/ of the tax levy. The num-
ber of school children show a definite downward trend while the
school budget shows a progressive moderate upward trend. Chairman
Hoyt read an editorial on the City of Boston Schools.
