The Appropriation "'ommittee met Tuesday evening, June 18th at 7:30 P. M.
in the office of the Town Accountant.
Present: Donald P. Noyes, Chairman
Oscar R. Carlson Logan Clarke, Jr.
Robert H. Kingston Frank T. Parrish, Jr.
Richard H. Battin John R. Bevan
Raymond L. White, Secretary Ralph B. Fifield, Jr.
Mr. Alfred Gray Jr. , Executive Assistant was present to discuss with us
items of importance.
The first item to come before this meeting was a request from the
Board of Selectmen to transfer the sum of $114.00 from the Reserve Fund to
the Posture Clinic, Personal Service Account in order to pay the salary
of the Physiotherapist through June. . The present balance of this account
is 5138.00. The Posture Clinic has two bills for May and June totalling
$252.00 so it was necessary that a transfer of $114.00 be approved if in
order. A motion was made, seconded and voted to transfer the sum of $114.00
from the Reserve Fund to Posture Clinic, Personal Service Account.
Then the meeting was opened to Mr. Alfred Gray Jr. , Executive Assistant.
The first question was the new salary schedule. Mr. Gray stated that the
study made was possibly all right for the coming year, but the year following
this salary schedule will have to be looked at and adjusted and considered
again in March of 1965. The Board of Selectmen this year had John Carroll,
Superintendent of Public Works stop the overtime.
It was suggested that this Committee circulate approximately fifteen
- or more towns of similar size to see what other towns are paying.
Mr. Gray was asked about Policemen as to their salary etc. as at
present the conditinns are not too good as the Policement have to live
here in Town, also pay for their uniforms. Mr. Gray stated that in
Connecticut the city furnishes the uniforms, but not the shoes. Also
understands that the Fire Department are asking for four new men.
On new houses that are built they should be inspected as soon as
finished and the Assessors establish the value, thereby eliminating delay
at the end of the year.
Mr. Gray spoke in general about centralized purchasing.
Also general conversation in regards to insurance, such as Workmens
Compensation, Liability, Group Insurance, Blue Cross, P. I. C. and Life.
The meeting adjourned at 9: 50 P. M.
Respectfully submitted,
Raymond L. White
