The Appropriation Committee met Monday evening, January $, 1962 in the
office of the Town Accountant.

Mr. C. Roland Christensen telephoned today that he was then going home
as he has the flu. He regrets that he will not be present at tonight 's
meeting.
Cr, Soon after the meeting assembled in the Town Accountant's office
Mr. Blaisdell suggested that we meet with the School Committee in their
., quarters because they had more room and there would be other persons
attending tnis meeting.
At $:45 P. M. this Committee went to the School Committee 's meeting.
Mr. Blaisdell then sent over certain items in the School 1962 budget.
The School Committee stated that every position in the School salary
budget has been analyzed and the difference between each step would be
5% a year for six years. Also another bracket is a step and one half
or 76 a step.
They also have a half a step bracket or 260. This salary schedule is
a guide only and not a salary schedule.
A 357 pupil increase this year.
Over 5% of instruction personnel have advanced degrees.
A general discussion was had on personal services section of budget,
such as, Item 611. A change in rental policies.
Food services budget, Account 900 - shows a 9% increase.
Expenses, Item 130-C Travel allowances. On use of automobile by
instructors and teachers, the School pays them 7¢ per mile.
Expense, Item 630 Heat for Administration Building. The cost to
October 31, 1961 is $338.92 not S$50.00 as shown.
Expenses schedule account 730. Item for 200 combination locks. The
$300.00 is for replacements.
Expenses - schedule 920 account - Renovation of kitchen and equipment
at klem9 School $$,195.00. The School Committee considered a central
system but too expensive. The entire renovation to be $13 ,000.00. The
balance will be requested next year.
Expense, schedule 1230 b account. Under Physical Education- Archery
z
Equipment S200.00. This is new, another physical education item.
On Page 39 of expense budget - William Diamond Junior High School.
Item for 1-16 m.m. film projector $450.00. Sound machine for funning a
film. Item under Music 70 pair of pants for Band uniform and 10
additional uniform jackets, total 51,560.00. Cost per uniform 54$.50.
This is the balance necessary to clothe the complete band.
In Out of State Travel, page 46, Item 3 , employment of an additional
administrator in the area of pupil personnel service. This administrator
is for guidance.
Athletics - Page 47 - Item 5 questioned. Movies for all football games.
The last item was Adult Education page 50. Question why this cannot be
self supporting.
Left the joint meeting at 10:50 P. M. and the Appropriation Committee
returned to the Town Account's office and had a general discussion
and adjourned at 11:30 P. M.
