HomeMy WebLinkAbout1961-11-13-AC-MIN.pdf 3 ` 4 November 13 , 1961 The Appropriation Committee members were invited to sit in at the Select- men's meeting with the Civil Defense to listen to the pros and cons of the Civil Defense members at 8:30 P. M. on Monday evening November 13, 1961. Present : J. Harper Blaisdell, Chairman Raymond L. White, Temp.Sec. Logan Clarke Jr. Alfred Viano John Bevan r"-. Messrs. Arthur E. Burrell, Harold E. Roeder and William H. Enders of the Civil Defense were present when our members arrived. Mr. Burrell spoke and said he did not know what the Civil Defense would do seeing all articles requested were turned down at the Special Town Meeting. The Selectmen read Chapter 639 of the Acts of 1950 when Civil Defense was first organized. The Civil Defense is under the control of the Board of Selectmen. Selectman Alan Adams stated that according to the by-laws we have got to have a Civil Defense. Harold E. Roeder stated that the Fire Department had approximately 66 or 70 civilians trained for a fire emergency. Civil Defense has no medical organization. The Police Department wants nothing to do with Civil Defense. Arthur Burrell asked what do you do with Town Government structure. Also the shelter program is the biggest part of Civil Defense. After general discussion it was the wish of the Board of Selectmen that the Civil Defense Committee continue doing what they can until the next Town Meeting. The meeting with the Civil Defense Committee adjourned at 10:05 P. M. at which time the Appropriation members left the meeting of the Board of Selectmen. Respectfully submitted, Raymond L.
