The Appropriation Committee met on September 18, 1961 at 8:00 P. M. in
the office of the Town Accountant.
Present: J. Harper Blaisdell, Chairman
Raymond L. White, Temp.Sec. Maurice F. Shaughnessy
Frank E. Douglas C. Roland Christensen
John R. Bevan
Richard H. Battin, member of the Appropriation meeting telephoned the
Chairman that he was out of town so would not be able to attend this
meeting.
A Postal card from Sanborn C. Brown was read of the second informal
discussion of the problem of secondary school building to be held
in the All Purpose Room of the High School at 8:00 P. M. Tuesday,
September 19th. The Chairman and interested members of the Appropriation
Committee were invited to attend.
A letter from the Board of Selectmen was read, announcing that they
have set Monday, October 30, 1961 as the date for a Special Town Meeting.
The following requests for transfer from the. Reserve Fund were acted
on as follows:
Transfer of 5200.00 from the Reserve Fund to Collector's Expenses
to take care of the cost of additional bills for 1961 Polls and Excise.
So voted.
Transfer of $224.00 from the Reserve Fund to Vital Statistics
account for the purchase of a copying machine. It was suggested that
such matters be brought to the attention of this Committee before actual
purchase. Finally so voted, but under reluctance.
A letter from the Board of Selectmen was read in which is stated,
Mr. John B. Byrne was appointed as acting Gas Inspector and requested a
transfer from the Reserve Fund of S500. 8400 to Inspections Department
Personal Services and 8100 to Inspecters Department expenses. So Voted
The Appropriation Committee expenses to date were read by the
Chairman, the total being $2,920.83. The appropriation was 82, 500 and
now the account isoverdrawn by $420.83. On one item of expenses there
were two charges of $22.10 each to repair tape recorder which the members
would like to know the answer. Also where was the tape recorder and
who was using it to necessitate the repairs. An invoice from Yawman and
Erbo Mfg. Co. for the File Cabinet, costing 872.38 was authorized and
approved for payment. The purchase of 17 — #010 — 112 Binders from
H. B. McArdle, to cost approximately $25. 50 was approved, also the
purchase of postal cards to cost $3.00 was approved. The Committee also
discussed other costs such as the printinc, of the budget. It was finally
voted to transfer from the Reserve Fund the sum of 8600 to the
Appropriation Committee expense account.
A letter from the office of the Selectmen was read requesting a
transfer of $1,255.45 from the Reserve Fund to the Elections—Jurisdiction
a ,61.G
Selectmen account. So voted. The request was due to the unforeseen .
expenditures incurred by the referendum on the school which cost $1,$06.92.
A general discussion was had on suggestions of Maurice F. Shaughnessy.
A typed., copy of these suggestions were distributed to each member
present.
The next meeting of this Committee will be held on Monday evening,
September 25th, at $:00 P. M.
The meeting adjourned at 11:05 P. M.
