At a telephone meeting of the Appropriation Committee held on this date, the following members were contacted: Gardner Ferguson, Chairman Austin W. Fisher Jr. John Biggs Leslie Read Frank D. Walker, Sec. All voted in favor of paying the amount of $882.08, same being .435% of Anticipation Revenue notes totalling $500,000.00 dated June 1, 1954 #3172 to 3183_ inclusive. A meeting of the Appropriation Committee was held on July 15, 1954 in the Conference Room, Cary Memorial Building, with the following members present : Gardner Ferguson, Chairman Donald T. Clark Robert R. Cave Austin W. Fisher Jr. William C. Madden Frank D. Walker, Sec. A letter from the Superintendent of Schools was read by members showing an increase in the allottment for school construction reimbursement from 28% to 33 1/3%. A letter from the Board of Assessors was read showing an increase in valuations of $3, 700,000 for 1954 Tax Rate purposes. Mr. Charles Nlrris from the School Committee came into our meeting at 8:00 p.m. to explain the necessity for their request for a transfer of 43,500 from the Reserve Fund to the School Expense account for the accoustical treatment of the New High School. After much discussion it was moved and seconded to transfer the sum of k3,500 but the motion was declared lost. Mr. Norris was so informed. During the evening Mr. Norris indicated the needed capital expen- ditures for the next 4-5 years totalling $3,000,000; itemized as follows : 700,000 - to finish High Schdol 300,000 - for addition to Franklin School 700,000 - Maple St. School 1,250,000 - Jr. High alterations, repairs and possible addition 2,950,000.
