A meeting of the Appropriation Committee was held in the Con-
ference Room in Cary Memorial Building at 7:30 P. M. on October 19,
1953 with the following members in attendance:
Raymond W. James, Chairman
Leslie C. Read Gardner C . Ferguson
William Madden Austin W. Fisher, Jr.
Conald T. Clark Robert R. Cave
John M. Biggs
Frank D. Walker, Secretary
Welcome was extended to John Biggs as a new member on our
Committee: Mr. Biggs will serve on the sub-committee to study the
Public Works .
Motion was made and voted to transfer $120.00 from the Reserve
Fund to the Elections - Expenses (Jurisdiction of Selectmen) .
Motion was made and voted to transfer 025. from the Reserve
Fund to the Board of Appeals - Expenses, with the suggestion the fees
be increased to cover the actual costs.
At the State Association meeting held October 14, a discussion
relative to the "Personnel Board" was held. The Town Counsel of
Brookline discussed fully the enabling act Section 108A of Chapter 41.
Motion was made that the Selectmen be petitioned to insert an
article in the Warrant for the November 30 Special Town Meeting, this
Article to be prepared by Harold Stevens, Town Counsel, establishing
_ a committee to determine the feasibility of establishing a Job Classi-
fication and Salary Committee. It was voted the approval of the
motion will rest in the hands of the Chairman of our Committee.
Recommend the committee consist of five residents of the Town.
The Public Works sub-committee will investigate:
Aim 1. How the unit cost of construction in Lexington
compares with other comparable towns.
2. Specifications .
3 . What proportion of total cost does the Town assure.
4. How much average cost to abutter per linear foot.
Achieve To reduce the cost to the citizen.
Don Clarkmade a motion to buy a tape recorder to be used at
hearings held by the Appropriation Committee. It was voted that the
Chairman purchase this equipment.
