James, Chairman Gardner C. Ferguson Thomas J. Donnelly, Jr. Leslie C. Read Donald T. Clark William Madden Austin W. Fisher Frank D. Walker, Secretary The minutes of the meeting held on Monday evening, September 14, 1953 were adopted. Ratified previous action by transferring $242.65 from the Reserve Fund to Town Clerk & Treasurer' s -- Focpense Account. Mr. Burns, Supt . of Public Works, came in at 8:00 P. M. to discuss his articles .- Article rticles .Article 4 will be indefinitely postponed unless the monies are received from the Town -of Bedford previous to Oct. 5, 1953. Article 5 - divided into two sections : Section I Additional appropriation necessary to finish sewers in sundry streets voted at Town Meeting - ( Scnool Street) and the extra cost of removing ledge in M arrett Road. Cost of School St. ( Est. ) $28,000.00 Additional cost of ledge 7,000.00 Total, Section I `435,000.00 Section II This is -for an appropriation of $25,000.00 for sewer up Massachusetts Avenue from the /unction of Lincoln Street to Woodbury Road, a distance of approximately 800 feet. The purpose of this extension is to require the installation of sewers in the -proposed Robinson Hill development. Article 6 - This is for an appropriation of A7,00O.00 which is anticipated will be needed to complete the Sewer Services not now completed plus an expected 40 - 50 plus 56( 2) services from the main to the edge of the road. 1. r .. Article 7 - Outside Lighting New High School - Plan prepared by Boston Edison calls for 31 lighting standards. The Selectmen are recommending 14. It is expected that the trenching and con- duits will cost $10,000.00. If the Boston Edison supplies the standards, cable and install the services, including the pulling of cables thru the conduits, there will be no charge for this service, but, the annual cost per unit will be $53.92 forevermore. Tf we pay for the service to be rendered by the Edison Co., the annual cost per unit will be a saving of over $20.00 per year. ( Don' t know whether we can buy this service yet .) Article 8 - No appropriation needed. Articles 9-10-11 Taken up and voted September 14, 1953. Article 12 - Rent Control - If this article is passed by the Town Meeting it will cost approximately as follows : Office Head $3,500 to $4,000 ( annually) Clerk 2,200 " 2,800 " Equipment 500 Article 13 - No additional information relative to costs. Mr. Burns left at 9 :20. Mr. Hunter, Chairman of the Elementary School Facilities Committee and Mr . J. Blackhall Smith, Supt. of Schools, came in to discuss Article 11 relative to Maple Street School - left 9 :45. Adjourned to Selectmen' s room. Left at 10:15 after discuss- ing the Articles pertaining to both groups. Reassembled and voted as follows; Article 2 - Recommend favorable action. _ Article 3 - Recommend favorable action. Article 4 - Left open until October 2, 1953. Article 5 - Section I. Appropriation of $35,000; to be transferred from Excess & Deficiency. Section II. Appropriation of $25,000; to be raised in the Tax Levy of 1954, Article 6 - Appropriation of $7,000; to be transferred from Excess & Deficiency. Article 7 - As total request not available to defer. Article 8 - Recommend favorable action. Articles 9 - 10 - 11 - Voted previously. It was voted to send a letter to Chairman of the School Committee that Appropriation Committee has not changed its mind. Article 12. As costs per year would be excessive it was recommending unfavorable action. Article 13. Final figures not available. No decision. Articles 14 - 15 - i6. No recommendation.
