James, Cnairman Gardner C. Ferguson Leslie C . Read Donald T. Clark Robert R. Cave William Madden ---4 Frank D. Walker, Secretary Harold Stevens, Town Counsel, was first to come before the Committee and Was asked to prepare a motion to present at some sub- sequent Town Meeting so as to establish a committee to study the salaries and wages of all Town Employees ( except teachers) includ- ing a job study and to recommend to the Selectmen -and Appropriation Committee the salary ranMe for each position including a maximum and minimum and the rating of the present incumber. Left at 8:05 P. M. School Committee with Elementary School Facilities Committee came in at d:05 and discussed Article 1. ( Fiske School Addition) Article 2/ ( the appointing of a Committee to procure detailed plans and specifications for a 16 room school at School Street, with estimates to be presented to the March 1954 Annual Town Meet- ing.) Article 3. ( the eppointing of a Committee to procure detailed plans ana specifications for a ( ?) room school on Maple. Street, with estimates to be presented to the March 1954 Annual Town Meeting. Under the first article for Fiske School Addition they have the following estimates : General Contractor 5267,400.00 Finish grading 10, 000.00 Architect 22, 160.00 Equipment 12,000.00 Insurance 500 .00 Bidding expense 500.00 Clerk of Works & Testing 3,500.00 Advertising & Miscellaneous exp. 1,) 110.00 Contingencies 7, 500.00 $325,000.00 This does not include an all purpose room which it is estimated would cost an additional 865, 000. This all purpose room was not included in the original plan of the school . VOTED: To appropriate the sum of $325, 000; 15, 000 to be transferred from E. & D. and the balance to be bonded over a period of 20 years. Under the article for the School Street School it was voted to appropriate the sum of $10,000. This sum to be transferred from the Excess and Deficiency Account . Total estimated cost $789,800. including all purpose room and lunchroom. a Under the article for the Maple Street School it was VOTED. The Appropriation Committee knows of no need for any apnr:)priation at this time and recommends indefinite postponement . The School is not needed until Septe , ber 1957 according to the Study Committee. The total enrollment for the schools as of September 14, 1953 was 3512: 1191 High School 2321 Elementary Schools The School Committee left at 9 :35 and the Recreation Comm- ittee came in to discuss the article relative to acquiring 7 acres of land on the southerly side of Maple Street @ ;500. per acre. Total cost of project will be roughly 820,000 (no water) . Asking for tl1,00O at this Town Meeting. Will be used almost exclusively for Little League. The Appropriation Committee voted to await Mr. Burns ? estimate of cost of rough grading until final action. Meeting• adjourned at 10 :55.
