HomeMy WebLinkAbout1951-11-20-AC-MIN.pdf St; MINUTES OF THE MEETING OF THE APPROPRIATION COMMITTEE HELD ON November 20, 1951 A meeting of the Appropriation Committee was held in the office of the Town Accountant Monday evening, November 19, 1951 with the following members in attendance: Leon W. Bateman, Chairman Ralph H. Tucker Clarence E. Smith Howard A. Patterson Raymond W. James John J . Sullivan Thomas J . Donnelly, Jr. A. W. Cleveland Leslie C. Reftd Ethel U. Rich, Secretary The meeting was called to order at 7:30 P.M. by Chairman Leon W. Bateman. The minutes of the meeting held on September 11, 1951 were presented and approved. Superintendent Burns came in at 7:35 and explained the reason he was asking for transfers from the Reserve Fund at this time . For Sewer Maintenance, the amount of 3400 is needed for maintaining pumps at the pumping station for remainder of year. For Water Services A5000 is needed but Mr. Burns said he would do as many as he could with a transfer of $2500. 330 services are completed to date, 28 paid to be done and an estimate of 45 more before the end of the year. Mr. Burns left at 7:50 P.M. It waw voted to transfer from Reserve the following accounts : Sewer Maintenance W. & E. $ 400.00 Water Services W. & E. 2500.00 The following letter was read: " November 14, 1951 Appropriation Committee Town Office Building Lexington 73, Massachusetts Gentlemen: We last night voted to approve for recommendation to your Board a transfer of A2500 from the Reserve Fund to the Water Services Account . This was a much debated item when we were making up the budgets last year and the two Boards cut it away down. We have already given back 15,000 and fear that this A2500 request will not he enough to see us through t 7 the year because Mr. Burns has a large backlog of requests. Please advise. We have a request from Mr. Chapin for a transfer of A2,000 from the Reserve Fund to take care of a hospitalization case and have voted unanimously to recommend this transfer to your Board. This is for a Mrs. Lennon who was hospitalized last March and we have delayed reporting this case to you because we wanted to make sure that she is our responsibility. Town Counsel advised this week that she is our re- sponsibility. (73 wy Respectfully yours, Donald E. The question of Mr. Carroll's request for transfer of $500 from Reserve Fund to Town Clerk & Treasurer's - Personal Services is being postponed until a letter is received from the Board of Selectmen requE•sting such transfer. It was voted to ratify the following transfers which were voted by telephone, not previously voted to date: Printing Town Report 168 .19 Town Off. & Cary Mem. Bldg. ( Barnes Property) 800.00 Memorial Day - Expenses 8. 36 Assessors ' - Personal Services 420.00 Selectmen - Expenses 350.00 Mrs . Ruth Morey, Chairman of the School Committee has in- vited members of the Appropriation Committee to make a tour of the Schools of the Town on Sunday P.M. , December 2nd. Meet at the High School at 2 o' clock. A. W. Cleveland and Clarence Smith left at 8:25 to meet with the School Committee. The following budgets for 1952 were approved and so voted: Appropriation Comm. Personal Services 595.00 Expenses 1050.00 Accounting Dept.
