Bateman, Chairman Ralph H. Tucker Howard A. Patterson A. W. Cleveland Raymond W. James 1-4 Thomas J. Donnelly,)r. Leslie C. Read John J . Sullivan Frank D. Walker, Consultant The meeting was called to order at 7: 30 P.M. by Chairman Leon W. Bateman. The following letter was received from the Veterans ' Services agent, Edward F. Chapin: "The Honorable Board of Selectmen Town Hall Lexington, Mass . Gentlemen: Again I find it necessary to request a transfer from available funds to meet the expenses ofVeterans ' Benefits and Services Department for the balance of 1951. Total expenditures through August amounted to $5,517.16 which leaves a balance in the fund of w982.84. Expense for the balance of the year, es- timated by the first eight months average, will be $2, 758.56 which would leave a deficit of :”l, 766. 72. In order to allow for further increases and eliminate the possibility of having to request another transfer I believe it advisable to request that a transfer of r2,500.00 be made. y The need for this request is due to the fact that there has been several new cases and the expense for Medical Benefits on some of the old cases has been unusually heavy. Respectfully yours , Edward F. Chapin /s Veterans ' Arent & Director of Veterans ' Services 84 -2- Mr. Chapin came into the meeting at 7: 30 to explain the reason for asking for extra funds. Left at 8 :00 P.M. It was voted to transfer the amount of ;2500.00 from Reserve Fund to Veterans Services - Aid & Expenses . Letter was received from Cary Library Board of Trustees, copy of which follows : "Mr. Leon W. Bateman, Chairman Appropriation Committee 1725 Massachusetts Avenue Lexington 73, Massachusetts Dear Mr. Bateman: The Executive Committee of the Trustees of the Cary Memorial Library have awarded the contract for the installation of the new boiler at the East Lexington Branch Library to Mr. Lester L. Andrews for the sum of 1 .60. This bid was 84 less than that submitted by Mr. Vernon Page. The Trustees are, therefore, asking for a transfer to the Library Expense Account of 8460 rather than the 8533 originally requested. The reduction in the amount requested is due to the choice by the Trustees of a smaller boiler than the one now in the Branch. The boiler chosen is a W-21-0 American Severn, rated for 840 feet, which will be ample for the 627 feet of free standing radiation now in use. Very truly yours, Ralph A. Nason /s Ralph A. Nason, Secretary RAN:aef Board of Trustees 'r It was voted to transfer the amount of : 200.00 from the Reserve rund to Cary Library - Expenses, and to advise the Library Trustees that we recommend the balance be transferred from the Library General Fund or that it be appropriated through a special Town Meeting.
