The Appropriation Committee held a meeting at 7:30 P .M. , on Mon-
day, March 13, 1972, in room 111, Town Office Building, Lexington.
Present were Edward E. Furash, Chairman, Jack L. Mitchell, Vice
Chairman, Arthur T. Bernier, J. H. Blaisdell, Levi G. Burnell,
H. R . Moore, Donald B. White and Richard M. Perry, Comptroller.
i"rs . C . Sanderson, a citizen and Mrs. Feakes of LWV observed.
Meeting was held with Bi-Centennial Committee members K. Howard,
Chairman, R. Michelson and R. Reynolds. A Report prepared by K.
Howard was presented and discussed. He felt that the activities of
1975 could spill over into 1976 .
R. Reynolds discussed the activities of the Committee with respect to
Article #43, which requests '$3,000. This he explained would be seed
money to make plans, by 1975, for a permanent, living memorial .
Meeting was held with J. Maguire, Chairman of the School Committee,
Rudolph Fobert, School Superintendent and Mrs. Ann Kohl, repre-
senting Robert Scott and his Learning Disability program reimburse-
ment Committee. Discussion was held with respect to these reim-
bursement opportunities . Another meeting on these matters will be
held after Town Meeting. It was suggested that a copy of the now
circulating petition requesting an inquiry into reimbursements.

EXECUTIVE SESSION was held, next, with the Board of Selectmen. The
Selectmen on line item #2480, will make a motion to add $3,000. for
Recreation - xp. - sum to read $16,850. instead of $13,850.
On Line Item ;04300 - CD-P.S. , the Selectmen will make a motion to
add $1,970. to Appropriations recommendation of ` 1,500.
The Appropriation Committee did not concur with these increases .
The cost of snow removal was discussed. $139,452 . has been spent,
so far, this year:
$58,000. - DPW labor - f,37,650. regular and
overtime wages included in 558,000.
81,452 . - other costs
It was reported that the Acting Superintendent of DPW will go into
Town Meeting to request an additional $20,000. on Line Item #4900,
DPW-P .S. and an additional $35,000. on Line Item #5500-Snow Removal.
LI #5500 could go as high as $95,000.
It was suggested that the amount of over-time expended should be
logged day by day.

Chairman Ce elde, of the Board of Selectmen, discussed the need for
an Administrative Assistant for the Town Manager. This Assistant
could, also, help in land acquisition and collective bargaining. He
would report to the Town Manager. A salary of from $14,000. to
018,000. was suggested. Under Acct. #1060 - Town Mgr.-P.S . -
12,000., additional, for this salary will be requested.

Upon motions duly made and seconded, it was VOTED, as follows:
Acct. #4900 - DPW-P.S . increase $20,000.-total now $741,221.
Acct. #5500 - Snow Remov. increase $35,000.-total now $95,000.
Upon motion duly made and seconded, it was VOTED to increase
Acct. #1060 - Town Mgr.-P.8 ., by $12,000., to allow for the addi-
tional salary of an Assistant to the Town Manager.
It was reported that the Capital Expenditure Committee will not sup-
m port Article #39 - $440m. for the Merriam St. parking lot . CE will,
also, support Appropis recommendation of $200,000. for land acquisition.

day, March 16, 1972, in room 111, Town Office Building, Lexington.
Present were Edward E. Furash, Chairman, Jack L. Mitchell, Vice
Chairman, J. H. Blaisdell, Levi G. Burnell, Howard L. Levingston,
H. B. Moore, Donald B. White and Richard M. Perry, Comptroller.
Rep. Lincoln P. Cole, N. Cohen, of the Conservation Commission,
Lee Whitman of the Capital Expenditure Committee and a Mr. Nevin
( re: Arts . a#58 and #59-Ashley Land) were present.
Bonding of Land acquisitions was discussed.
Appropriations recommendations will be as follows :
Art. #53 '.32,000. favorable action - E & D
Art. #54 25,000.
