day, January 31, 1972, in room 111, Town Office Building, Lexing-
ton. Present were Edward F. Furash, Chairman, Jack L. Mitchell,
Vice Chairman, Elizabeth M. Flynn, Sec-retary, J. H. Blaisdell,
Levi G. Burnell, Howard L. Levingston, H. B. Moore, Donald B.
White and Richard M. Perry, Comptroller.
Mrs . F eakes, of the LWV, Mrs . S . Byrnes, a TM member and Mrs . C .
Sanderson observed.
Chairman Furash scheduled the meetings for the following weeks,
prior to the Committee' s Report going to press.
Member Flynn was appointed, to represent the Committee, on the
Selectmen's Land Acquisition Committee.
The Chairman read a letter from F. Michelman, a TM, with respect to
scattered site housing. Mr. Michelman will be invited to meet with
the Committee . -
A letter (copy) was read by the Chairman. This was a letter from
V . Page, School Committee member, to D. Legro, Town Counsel, re-
questing a ruling on the legality of "the picking up' of sick leave,
from previous teaching assignments in other Towns , for new teachers .
After discussion, it was agreed that $30,000. could be cut from General
Government expense budgets . An overall increase of 5% would be -ac-
ceptable, including the x:50,000. requested for highway maintenance,
which is in Article #40. The 850,000. must be included in the 5% —
increase, or the general increase would be from 7% to 8.3%.
The Selectmen will be queried with respect to line item !}05,
Acct. #1050, Dues and Membership. Is $1,850. necessary in their
request?
Upon motion duly made and seconded, it was VOTED, with respect
to Acct . #7550, Library expenses, to request the Library represen-
tatives to revise their budget to reflect only a 5% increase .
A projected Tax Rate of 867.80, at this time, does not reflect the
anticipated $30,000. to 40,000. reduction in Expenses from the
Selectmen. A ` 68.00, T .R., could be possible .
The next meeting night is scheduled on Wednesday, February 2, 1972,
at 7:30 P.M.
The meeting was adjourned at 10:20 P.M.
